Did I just miss my chance to beta test? =/ Congratulations though, really great project! There should be more of these. Let us know how things go, and I for one am waiting expectantly for Apple to approve your app.
We are giving out 80 AdHoc copies of the final built that was sent to Apple yesterday. To request a AdHoc copy you can e-mail us your Name, Country and UDID to [email protected]. Ps. Sending the e-mail will not guarantee a copy, there is only 80 of them.
Thanks for all the awesome comments! We just noticed that the app went from Waiting for review to In review. This means we are very close to release this game! Stay tuned, we will be handing out some free promos as soon as we get the game approved.
Game Impressions DTS was kind enough to give me a preview copy and the game is all of that and a bag of chips! As you've probably already seen in the video, the concept is pretty simple. Your mission is simply to get as far as possible using the tilt controls to steer your ship. You have two aspects standing in your way of reaching the furthest reaches of space, a very limited fuel supply and all sorts of obstacles (asteroids, ships, black holes, etc.) blocking your way. Your biggest objective. therefore. is to keep hunting down fuel deposits (the game's radar will even indicate the direction of any nearby fuel deposits) while avoiding any collisions. The longer you fly without bumping anything, the higher speed you'll attain and since fuel is used up at a fairly constant rate, going fast means you'll get the best distance/drop of fuel. Colliding with objects will slow you way down as well as spill out big gushes of fuel (so your current fuel supply, in a weird abstract way, is also indicative of your ship's overall health). All collisions are not created equal! Running into a black hole or the jet trail of the big UFO will mean game over (not sure if the shield can save you in these situations). To help you out in all of this zaniness are two other power-ups, a nitro boost that will help you speed up and a shield that will ensure you take no damage in your next collision (while I don't think the shield will ever time-out on its own, it only will protect you from a single collision). DTS explained to me that in order to stay true to their 72 hour deadline they had to submit it in its current form. The game is incredibly polished and if they didn't proudly advertise the fact that the 4 of them whipped this out in 72 hours, you'd never know it wasn't something they'd been tinkering with for months! All that being said, now that it has been submitted with their lofty goal achieved, they're now free to tinker with it to further refine it and add content as they and we fans see fit.
Hey DTS, Any chance you'll add place numbers in ranking or is this intentional? I'd like to know at a glance that I'm in 32nd or 67th place globally. Will the shield protect me from a black hole or big ufo exhaust? Another cool aspect of this game is how the various obstacles, even besides the two instant death guys I just referred to in my review, seem to hit you with different levels of impact. Hitting an asteroid will do some big damage and greatly slow you down whereas bumping into blue landers is fairly insignificant and will simply swivel out of your way on impact.
Congrats on this one DTS. Very impressive feat you've accomplished creating such a polished and apparently fun to play game in so short a time! Been watching and rooting for you guys since your first post about Project 72 and I have to say, it was impressive to watch it all come together! Q
