A brief article on my interview with Max is up on the site, please go and read it if you have any questions regarding Prevail: http://toucharcade.com/2017/02/03/max-scott-slade-the-co-founder-of-johnny-two-shoes-explains-the-situation-behind-prevails-mysterious-release/ I hope to get something more in-depth up later, but I hope this helps clarify things for now. Thanks for Max for coming to answer questions here too - his username is 'maxscottslade'. Thanks for your patience surrounding Prevail, and I offer the complete support of both myself and the community to Josh for his continued fight against his illness.
Well sad story, I hope your bro will recover soon, mental illnesses are unfortunately very frequent but people usually lock themselves and dont speak about it which makes things worse, I know something about it as my major was psychology. I don't know what kind of illness he is suffering from but there's always a way to over come it and get back to the normal life. Good luck to him!
I really hope this serves as an important lesson to people instantly looking to jump on developers for cash grabs, releasing incomplete games, or whatever else. There's always another side to the story.
We shouldn't judge too quickly for sure but we should also understand that people aren't all rich and that 5 or 6 dollars, even if not much, could means sacrifices for some. I can't spend too much on games as I have a big family to feed, so 6 dollars on a game that doesn't work is painful. But I'm happy Max came here to explain it and I hope the best for his bro.
I don't disagree. However, the sort of comments we were deleting weren't from people who are strapped for cash, spent all day researching whether or not they should buy this game because a $5 or $6 purchase is very significant for them, then offered reasonable disappointment. They were from people who saw "Prevail," instantly hit "Buy" then spent their day(s) accusing the developers of stealing from them and other weird things.
I personally have been following the game for years. And, I'm majorly bummed that it came out in the state that it did and is unlikely to ever get released in a polished state. Still, I'll get over that in next to no time, I'm an adult. Josh might not ever fully overcome his own personal struggles and that is mountain next to the molehill of a problem I mentioned above. I hope Josh figures out what he needs to do to make it through and come out on the other side, capable of coping with his situation. Don't worry about Prevail! I'll send some positive energy in your direction!
I really haven't had any issues with this game thus far... the black screen goes away no issues after closing/reopening and the white screen you just have to wait for the game to load, sometimes painfully long but it works. I don't need a refund. A game, even in this state, takes more time than I think many truly realize. I wish Josh and Max the best; mental illness is just so hard to deal with and it affects everyone around a person as well, whether it be depression or schizophrenia or the like. Glad I purchased.
Thanks for everything Max. No questions asked from my side. In general terms it's -very unfortunately- what I imagined. I really wish your brother, yourself and your families the best of lucks In my opinion, today's article could (should) be the end to all the "I was ripped off", "this is crap", etc. comments regarding Prevail, specially when Max is assuring a refund can be requested, and I'm sure Apple is aware of the situation and won't put problems in granting a refund for those who are willing to request it.
Thanks for the info Rob. I know how Max's brother feels, at least to a degree. Mental illness is not something I would wish on anyone. It is a horrible thing to deal with. When I was caught in it's grip, the only thing I looked forward to was going to bed to get some rest. I say rest as actual sleep was fleeting. Your body then begins to break down as without rest you don't heal. The loss a appetite is terrible as you know you need to eat , but just don't feel like it. My day revolved around looking at the clock, to plan out when I had to eat, and taking baby steps to prepare the meal , as everything is a huge effort to perform. I felt some days, that this would never end, and that I could not go on. Thinking of my brother and parents gave me the strength to soldier on. I thought long and hard about writing this in the forum, but just wanted to give my Touch Arcade friends some perspective on what Max's brother could be going through. May he find strength in his family and learn to enjoy life again by doing the fun things that he greatly enjoys that will take his mind off of the negative and focus on the positive. Thanks
I wish him a speedy recovery and I'm happy with the purchase I made and won't be requesting a refund.
No Refund From Apple I'm sorry to hear about the situation, and I send my best wishes to you all. I tried to refund the game and apple said it was not eligible for a refund. Any help would be great.
Please put the game up on the App Store again so people can purchase it to support the family of developers. With a description stating that it is not a finished product this might be an option. Followed the thread fingers crossed that it was the wrong version that got released, but with the new knowledge I just want to support the devs. Five years is a long time to have a project go wrong no matter what the reason. Loved Plunder land.
this is a great idea, id like to download it too to support the cause. very Sad story and very sorry to hear all that has happened during the development of Prevail. I hope it gets finished and released at the caliber of games you guys release. Plunderland was and is a masterpiece. Hoping your brother recovers and you both continue to make great games.
So sorry for you and your family in the situation you are in. Hope your brother recovers fast and is in good health for the rest of his life. The above suggestion is a great idea, to help n support you all in these difficult times. It was stated on here a few weeks ago that the finished game was submitted to Apple and will be released shortly.... is this that version that was released unfinished, or do Apple still have the finished one and we will get it once apple release it?
