I really like how you strayed away from gradients and went for the polished look. I think that combining the sunburst orange and the marble black is a really great choice of beneficial color combination. The eye is always attracted to the bright and you nailed that let me glance at this first reaction. I am one of those type of people that if there is a really unique cover of a book, I will at least pick it up and read about it. App store is flooded with icons and the best way to be on top is to be unique and eye catching. There is a part of me that appreciates the bomb icon in the left and a part of me that thinks it adds another focus for the viewer. I tried looking at it without the bomb icon and the app seems to be putting the icon in a much more prominent position. Also great use of transparency in your name. Regarding the feedback in game, what if we had done that in the other contest?
