The game features two kind of level types: One is time based and the other one has a limited number of permitted false attempts. No matter what, if you fail, the level will go "Boom", so you have to act smart. The objective of each level is to uncover an image in a grid of squares, which in PixelBoom! are called "pixels". There are pixels contributing to the final image and pixels, which must be transparent. It is your goal to deduce which are the contributing and which are the transparent ones. Digits, which are attached to the grid, will tell you the number of consecutive contributing pixels in each row and in each column. Combining these numbers is the key to solving the level. To ease the challenge, there a three different kind of powerful tools you may unleash:1) The Hourglass: Increase your time or the number of permitted false attempts2) The Hint: Solves a randomly chosen pixel, which contributes to the final image3) The Focus: Reduces the playing field and lets you focus on solving a smaller area firstTo use one of these tools, you will need energy, which is earned by uncovering the transparent pixels. It may not be necessary to uncover those to solve the level, but it will help you uncovering the others.Playing and solving a level will yield a highscore, assembled by the number of consecutive pixels you uncovered without a mistake in between and the number of remaining time or false attempts at the end of the level. So you may want to improve your highscore with each new play. Highscores are not only for fun. Each solution of a level will be rated with a maximum of three stars:1) The first one for solving the level2) The second one for solving the level in a certain time or with a certain minimal amount of false attempts3) And the last one for reaching a certain highscore thresholdBesides highscores, stars are used to unlock new packages of levels or individual levels with special conditions. Looks good but sadly I can't say much about the gameplay. There are a few graphical glitches with the menu and buttons but the biggest problem is that the app completely crashes as soon as I touch the screen on the first level. This is on an iPad Air 2 with 8.4. blastemup Well-Known Member Feb 2, 2009 67 0 0 #5 blastemup, Jul 30, 2015 Can't play it-downloaded 3 times-crashes everytime on first puzzle in tutorial-Ipad Air 2/128 Dentorin Active Member Nov 2, 2012 40 0 0 #6 Dentorin, Jul 31, 2015 Same experience iPad Mini 2. I'm very sorry to hear, that the game is crashing on various devices and that I am investigating the reports. I hope to get to the cause and provide a fix as fast as possible. As far as I can see, every crash occurs in the first level? With the first touch? @bluke: Can you provide a screenshot of the "graphical glitches"? [EDIT]: The game-breaking bug seems to be resolved. I hope to be able to submit the update today. [EDIT 2]: The new version has been submitted. It was a really rough start, but the update should now be available (or at least within the next 24h) now Dazzlemi Well-Known Member Mar 14, 2010 979 4 18 #16 Dazzlemi, Aug 8, 2015 I recently downloaded the update, and it no longer crashes on my iPad Air 2. It locked up once, but after that it was ok. The only downside I can think of is that the text is a bit small, rather hard to read. The numbers around the edge of the play field should definitely be bigger. The gameplay is ok though. pixelpai Member Jul 31, 2015 7 0 0 #17 pixelpai, Aug 8, 2015 Did the game lock up in the exact same situation as before? In the later levels (up to 20x20) the available space for the numbers rather limited, but I will look into increasing the size in those smaller levels. By the way: There is an option to "extend the grid" in the settings-panel, which will lengthen the reference lines of the grid. It won't help to lighten the reading of the numbers, but maybe gives a little bit more orientation for those later levels. Again: Thank you. Dazzlemi Well-Known Member Mar 14, 2010 979 4 18 #18 Dazzlemi, Aug 8, 2015 The freeze happened once when I first restarted the tutorial, from the original save slot. Except the one (one-time) crash Dazzlemi reported, there have not been any other reports. I have to say, I'm quite relieved. On a side note: I'm preparing another update featuring a "mirror-mode", which hopefully will make it easier for left-handed persons to play the game. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
