    It's looking great!
I'm a big fan of the very first NFS on the 3DO.
Smart choice to go with the cel-shaded look, it will cut down your costs for graphics.

Yeah, I was finding it difficult to be able to produce all the assets needed with the "realistic" version and as soon as I started adding decent looking trees it just started to slow to a crawl.

I was actually reading on Unity's site on how to optimise mobile games and they suggested that going toon can be a great way of making a game look awesome, whilst cutting down overheads, both in asset costs and device performance. It worked :D

I'm going to release a Mac version too It will have head to head racing... split screen and possibly network. Might do a PC version if I can find somewhere to sell it, too. Won't be Steam... they ruined it with greenlight. LOL.

What is it with you and pickups? Haha. Funnily enough, I need to edit the AI driving a bit. At the mo they aren't braking for corners and sometimes the pickups roll. Quite funny.

Speaking of AI, I'm quite proud of it. Cars overtake each other, try to avoid accidents but from time to time crash into themselves. It's like an over the top version of reality, as all games should be ;) Still needs quite a few tweaks but working pretty well!

  5. Is there some kind of oversteering mechanism in this game?

Well, the physics are pretty realistic so yeah, you can drift around corners if you like but it's not easy and that's not the aim.

I'm a freelance motoring writer and a friend of mine runs a website called www.oversteer.co.nz so we decided to collaborate.

Initially the game did start out as a drift game, full of upgrades, IAP etc... I felt it was way too unoriginal so I changed tack completely. There aren't any other point to point racers available on iOS (other than rally games), as far as I can tell, and I love them :)

    Another quick WIP shot.

I was hoping to launch very soon but I am in talks with a publisher, so it may be held up a little. Will keep you posted!

    Good luck with it.
You had me sold as soon as test drive got mentioned. A publisher could help with some exposure though.

Yeah, I need to weigh up the pros and cons, but I'm leaning towards going with them.

    Not yet :p

Currently I have four cars but I'm adding one or two more before launch.

    Quick update time!

Have added another car, so the total is five, now.

All the tracks have been modelled, so now it's just a matter of setting up the AI cars for each track and polishing everything.

It's taking a bit longer than expected (I think I bit off a bit more than I could chew with this project) but hopefully I'll have the game ready very soon.

Sadly, Oversteer will be the last game from POLYGAMe, which will be shutting its doors (okay, not literally, as I want to be able to get in and out of my flat) for good. I need to concentrate on my studies and "get a real job" that actually pays the bills. Haha.

I gave it a good go and it's been fun but I need to start thinking about the future and "hoping" that each game release will make more than $5 just isn't working for me or my bill paying situation.

Anyway, with Oversteer, hopefully I'll be going out in style!

I will, of course, keep supporting my games for the foreseeable future.

Great news for the game, bad news for your quitting in game developing... I hope it will be only temporaneous... Anyway I think oversteer will repay your efforts!!! Let's know any update on release date!!!

Haha, if by some miracle the game sells well, I'll keep at it, otherwise, time to call it a day. I'll keep doing stuff as a hobby but that's more likely to be stuff for old computers and consoles, like Commodore 64 and Sega Mega Drive :)

As for Oversteer, I'm HOPING to have it pretty much finished within a couple of weeks.

Sad to hear, but looking forward to Oversteer, and you never know...

Also, what kind of C64 stuff? I used to have one of those, and I play games on a c64 emulator now and then.

I'll start with something simple, as I've never coded in assembly before.

I was thinking of doing Max Vector, which was my first iOS game that was inspired by C64 and other early computers... ah the irony! Lol.

I also have a flick screen ninja game idea which would suit it nicely. Kinda like Rick Dangerous, but with ninjas!

There's a 16kb cart competition on every year, so I'll hopefully get something done in time to enter that.

Again, silly iPad won't let me attach more than one image at a time, so here's the other.
