By the time the source of the problem was discovered (in O2), the impetus was to complete that game asap. Now that it will be released, maybe the bug will be fixed in O:LoW, I dunno, but I wouldn't be too hopeful. I think it was clear that the update was only to address OS incompatibilities. Heh. I wish. If O2 does really, really well, there should be some chance for a release of more cards but I would guess the developer is done with this project.
That's an incredibly disappointing statement right there. Doesn't bode well for the future of what *should* be an ongoing and vibrant franchise. Any insight as to whether Pavel and team are interested in selling the IP rights so someone else can pick up the mantle, treat the Orions franchise properly and actually turn it into the thing it should have been all along? The lack of success they've had with Orions isn't due to anything more than mismanagement of the entire project from development and testing to bug corrections to marketing and promotion. It's just been one sad, lackluster, practically ignored piece of software on iOS since day one. Perhaps in someone else's hands the game could flourish and thrive as it most certaily should. There IS a huge audience in there for this game (trust me, I've done the market research!) if only people: 1. knew about it; 2. could trust the caretakers (i.e. developers/publisher) of the game to treat it well and support it properly; and 3. it had active developer support in the community. It's sad really, and even though I can't wait for O2's release and will still be buying it (and gifting it to others) on day one, I'm not optimistic about Orion's future as a franchise unless they are open to selling/licensing to IP rights to someone else.
My response was not well thought out and I'd like to correct it. I DO BELIEVE there is a chance for an update to include MP functionality for constructed deck and there is a possibility we'll see new or more cards (from O:LoW). What are the circumstances that would favor such an update(s)? Clearly, popularity beyond their expectations. The possibility of an IAP for either more cards or constructed MP. I don't know but clearly, I should not rule out the possibility of updates completely. I suppose it would have been better to just share that this project in Pavel's own words, took on "a life of it's own." I'm sure coding the MP aspect was what he was referring to.
IAP? No IAP please... rather separate apps. I hate the idea of not being able to re-download my stuff if, for some reason, it gets removed from AppStore. (As is the case with MANY old Gameloft titles.)
Yeah... if nothing else, they could come up with a heavily restricted (e.g., iOS-only) public domain distribution form with vetoing rights for them, should they, in some point in the future, restart working on the iOS port of the game.
Please tell me their kidding. If they said "we're ideally looking at minutes, not hours", I would still be pissed, but months... for Christ's sake, what are they doing to that game? This is ridiculous.
wtf, does the dev know about this? so theyre editing his app by themselves? maybe delaying for a nice release window and making marketing materials or something?
What's the twitter name? That really, really, really makes no sense at all. The game is freaking ready for release right this minute.
http://twitter.com/chillingo Scroll down about 6 tweets: @chillingo when is Orions 2 release date? I am so excited chillingo response: @BboyRupture Shouldn't be too long now. We're ideally looking at weeks, not months. my follow up to chillingo: @chillingo Better be taking this time to promote the game. And why is it still, at the very least, not in the upcoming section? they haven't replied yet
What a farce. Par for the course, though. Orions, since Day One, has always been an interesting concept surrounded by morons.
lol youre kidding right? aso for weeks/months.. wow.. who would expect that.. maybe they are redoing all the graphics upping the ante from ancient SD to HD.. or they are hard at fixing bugs and testing the bejesus out of it.. or they just fiddle in the code around add more bugs and plaster "chillingo" all over it who knows.. after the recent "update" which fixed what exactly? (yeah nothing in paeticular) i somehow just ... i don't know.. just dissapointed.. because the core experience is a good one.. and this is a product ****ed up beyound recognition.. well maybe its time someone just makes a orions clone, update it frequently , squisehs bugs and doesnt care to become the next millionair with it but stays on the ground with expected success..
