Totally agree. iOS 12 will be out this Sept. Ive got an old iPad ($100) which I knew my 32 bit games on
Because in this way the users that will download it will be more and the money that the developers will get, will be more! Have backwards compatibility and all the customers will be satisfied. It's like someone will develop a new game for pc / mac only with the high-end new graphics cards. Only few will buy it. I don't understand how the developers are thinking. Maybe the developers don't want to support previous versions due to different coding/ programming.. I just really don't know... Fortnite also needs ios 11 ... On the contrary to Fortnite, I really would like to buy Oddmar. It's true premium title and I wanted to support the devs like I have already bought Leo's Fortune, Rayman 1,2, etc. I have ios 10 and I don't want to update because I have read that iPhone / iPad will get a little bit slower. So, no thanks, I will stick to ios 10.
When I bought my iPad pro, it was delivered with IOS 9.3 and optimized for IOS 9.3. It is not a secret that the evolutions of IOS are optimized ONLY for newest devices. Besides, there are new games issued with IOS 7 as a minimum requirement. I still remember how IOS 8 bricked my iPad 2 and no way to step back. I will stay on IOS 9.3 for sure! And to answer your question, I would say that the devs would certainly get more customers if they make the game compatible with older IOS versions.
same thing here... i've already complained about that in the upcoming thread last week, 'cause never seen before a weirder system than this... i've bought the game anway, but now i see that the download "feature" is worse than i expected, and devs told it needed a one time download only. what i do if the server stops working or i can't reach any wi-fi connection? and then, why do i have to wait, in a premium game, a 3/4 minutes download every time i want to play????? but even worse, why Carter Dotson doesn't say anything about this in his "enthusiastic" review??? i agree that this is a hell of a game, but come on, this download oddness thing is a major issue and should cost at least one star less in the final vote imo... in a review everything must be said, even the negative stuff.
Pretty sure its a bug because I often play in airplane mode and I never had a problem. The game does load additional data when you first start it (only once if you dont reinstall, I think its probably hi res assets as in Leos Fortune) but other than that.... Unless its iCloud data for the sync.
I also think this is a bug. For me any level always starts instantly. Had a single download when I started the game for the first time and that was that. Weird issue, hope the dev takes care of it (and looking at all the bug fixes Leo‘s Fortune got - one of their other big games - there‘s little doubt they will) but definitely doesn’t affect everybody.
i don't think it's a bug 'cause, as i said in my previous post, i've already argued and complained with the devs, a week ago in the upcoming thread, about their choice to have another data download after the main installation, which is normally a feature in every freemium game. anyway, here it is the last line of appstore notes, in case you missed it: "An internet connection will initially be necessary to complete the download of app data for Oddmar." edit > guess there's something wrong in all this mess for some of us (maybe in some devices the iOS delete all temp downloaded data), but anyway a second data download is always not fair in a premium game, usually nobody wants it, i've read in this forum, this last years, thousands of heavy complaints about the need of an internet connection and data download in freemium games, so i don't understand why in this case (considering also the 5 bucks spent) everyone has his mouth shut.
I feel like theres two different points being made about downloads. What you seem to be saying here (and what the App Store description youve quoted seems to be saying) is that a second download is required the first time you launch the game, because it doesnt download everything in one go. But after that second download you shouldnt need to download anything else. This is annoying but not a big deal imo, and prob happens in the background for a lot of people so they dont even notice. The other point some seem to have made is that you need to redownload levels every time you play, so you cant play without an internet connection. Which I believe is a bug. Or, as in my case, it just wont do the second download, which is one of the worst, most game breaking bugs Ive encountered in the literally hundreds if not thousands of games Ive played. I hope they fix it soon.
got your point, but is not so easy as it seems... in my case, and from what i see also in Quoad & Lull4by ones, the game downloads just a certain number of levels, then when you finished them another download is required, i mean in the same game session... i.e. in my first attempt i've got a fast initial download and in fact i've completed only the first three levels, then when i click to play the fourth one, the app asks to wait for another download. anyway, when you close the app, all the downloaded data seems to vanish. so, this means that the app needs an internet connection at any time, or am i wrong? if you read the dev answer in the upcoming thread (and also the appstore notes), they don't specify how many downloads the app needs, so i guess it maybe depends from the servers, iOS, device or free space on disk. anyway, my first point is: why the hell they've used this weird system, while in this industry (not only on phones, also consoles and computers) all devs give us a "more logical" one time download???? (X-Com needs a 3.5 gb download and nobody has ever complained about that). second point: why the hell a premium $5 game needs an internet connection to download levels and nobody says nothing like in case of freemium ones??? (i.e. i'm playing Rogue Hearts that costs 1 buck and also needs an internet connection, but it's a strategic game with an in-game chat, daily rewards and fully playable without putting a cent, so all more understandable, over the lower initial price asked, and i've read a lot of complaints when it came out). i don't care about great grafx and animations if then the game has a crazy load system and needs a stable internet connection at any time... imo a game should be judged as a whole, not only for how many frames the character sprite has while jumping, would be too childish!
The reason people are not complaining is that most folk haven’t noticed. It’s a progressive download (similar to what many PS4 games do) which lets you play the game as it downloads the assets. When it works (and clearly it’s working for most people) the process is seamless and invisible. Some folks seem to have download problems, which why they noticed in the first place. Whether that’s due to a bug or a quirky internet connection, we don’t know — I suspect it’s the latter. Here’s something else we don’t know: whether the 3GB+ download size of XCOM:EW had an impact on the game sales. We do know that the sequel never made it to mobile, so my guess is that the sales did not meet expectations. At this point, your issue is probably better handled directly with the developers — or by asking Apple for a refund.
Its a bug. Just to be sure I tried with two different networks, but my main home network is very fast and very stable anyway. Im sure itll get sorted so Im not toooooo annoyed yet. But it is a very, very serious bug for those affected, which might also be more than you seem to think since several people in this thread alone have had the issue. So hopefully its sorted fast.
It worked for me, so there’s that. It worked for Jared, who reviewed the game. And so far the game has a 4.9 in the App Store (US), so my guess is that it’s working for most people. BTW, you’ve been here long enough to know that the number of complaints on a TA thread bears no relationship with the proportion of people who have a problem. In any event, I think the best thing for people to do right now is to send a message to the developer directly.
maybe you're right about the bug, or maybe not, hope devs will told us... anyway you ain't got one of my points: said by the devs and clearly written in the appstore, the game needs an initial internet connection, if not a continuous stable connection to download levels while playing, we'll see... do we agree on this??? ok so, it means that more or less everyone should knows about that condition... right? so leaving the bug issue, the refund, etc aside, and knowing well this forum... why the hell nobody (starting from the TA reviewer) complains about a premium game that needs an extra internet connection, while for each freemium (means free of charge) crap app that came out every single week, i always have to put up with the same complaints about the need of a connection (with comments like "what, internet connection? i'll pass" and so on)??? i have my theory... usually when a game got a 5 stars review and a couple of senior guys in the thread says that it's "the best game of all times", no one wants to go against the tide, even if it has expensive IAPs, need a connection, it's full of bugs, etc, and imho this is one of those cases. or... maybe it means that this game sets a new standard??? if this is the case, so in the future i would like to never listen again any complaints about the need of a connection to play a game, be it freemium or premium. edit > or we complain in all cases, or not at all!!!
The developers need to fix this asap! It's a premium title and the users don't need to play a platform game WITH a requirement of internet connection. This is not a Super Mario RUN..
The point is that, for most players, the game does not require an internet connection (I just tried it on Airplane Mode) Seems like for a few folks, the progressive download system (which should only comes into play the first time you play the game) is not working properly. Unfortunately, that the kind of issue that can be the hardest to fix, since it’s not global. That’s why those affected should be contacting the developer directly and providing them with specific information about their devices and connections. Complaining about it here is not going to help — except to drive away sales, which is apparently the point (that is, punishing the developer for choosing progressive downloads in the first place).
