I saw a few minutes of Nova 2 on my brothers 3d andriod phone and the graphics were really good. Only got to try it for a few minutes and was mostly the training part. Would you say the game is specifically a shooter, or are there also rpg or adventure aspects to it? It is $7 in the app store so I don't want to buy it until I know what kind of game it is.

There are no RPG aspects to NOVA 2 at all. It's a FPS trying to mirror Halo.

Oh dear god, please don't ruin my favorite shooter franchise by making it freemium.

I can't imagine this being free+ :( this is one I would put lots of time into.

@crex, I doubt it would run on 2nd gen anyways so no worries there. ;)

They tried that before (I think), and it didn't work out to well if I recall correctly. I remember that the icon had a sword on it.

Yep, they tried it with both Starfront and Sacred Odyssey. It was a failed experiment. Clearly, freemium is working out much better for them. That's why Gameloft is continuing to release them.

Have to say I've sorely missed all the Gameloft games that usually flood Xmas... hopefully they've been putting the Unreal Engine through its paces to stun us next year. Especially Nova 3.

Honestly, NOVA 2 was a huge disappointment. I liked the first NOVA, now that was a game. The first game was huge fun with a small room FFA against 3 other players was so fun. But, in NOVA 2, it wasn't as exciting and fast paced as the original.

Hopefully, NOVA 3 has a mix of both small and short maps. Plus, it better not be freemium.

I totally missed this thread and agreed! I wonder why there was so much discussion about the HD thing? There's plenty of HD games on the AppStore for iPod/iPhones. It signifies that they're universal.

I thought NOVA 2 was amazing, though I admittedly never played the first. The multiplayer, at least, is the best of probly all shooters excluding MC3. Insta-gib mode is my favorite though, and NOVA 2 is the only series with it! But yeah, if NOVA 3 is freemium.....Gameloft sucks officially. There only decent series then would be MC3 (of the continuing ones, that is)

No it doesn't. All of gameloft's games are universal of late, and NONE of gameloft's universal games have an 'hd' in them. It may happen with other companies but not gameloft.

NOVA 2 was good, I must admit. But, I didn't play it nearly as much as I played NOVA 1. The first was WAY more fun IMO. NOVA 2's multiplayer was just boring. NOVA 1's multiplayer was more like a PvP arena (with 2 others to play against) while NOVA 2's multiplayer was like you had to run around a ton just to kill someone.

    the stars
    I'll tell you why!!!

    1. When games are $7, and not that great, everyone complains and generally feels ripped-off.

    2. When games are $7 and really fantastic, we buy. Those on a budget (the majority) do not and wait for a sale. Some just lose interest all together. I know I have.

    3. When games are paid for, they lose their sparkle after 6months. They also lose their profitability. Ads pay when nobody wants to.

    4. Buying games requires the first initial purchase to try (gamer must have enough desire to purchase). Making that "no turning back commitment" is hard for some people. Free = no commitment unless you want to. Maybe you'll get into the game and start buying fake stuff.

    5. The $0.99 status-quo. I used to like buying crap for a buck. Now I expect hours of 5-star, magical distraction with my buck. Despite what you might think, we all do.

    **********************
The whole Freemium model sucks IMO. Truth be told, you have greater chance of making $$$ when your games are already on the customers phone. There are more inexperienced new comers that would love a console-like freebie than there are hardcore supporters of gameloft that like buying every IP. Six guns has 4+ stars in the app store.

True! I guess I was making a broad, general statement. A decent amount of other companies put HD on the end to show it's universal, especially if they already have a previous version out and don't update it to be universal. But yeah, you're right about the Gameloft thing. Maybe they see this as a better strategy. Have the regular version cost $5 and the HD/universal version cost a few bucks more instead of having a separate iPod and iPad version. IDK, just speculating.

Also, IDK if NOVA 3 will be freemium or not. As mentioned earlier MC3 could have definitely been freemium. I just hate the IAP in MP thing. It drives me crazy! If you're gonna have your precious IAP keep it restricted to single player.
