I have an iPod touch 2nd gen running on 3.0 jailbreak (for a little over a month), and I was charging it for an upcoming trip. It indicated that the battery was full, so I unplugged it and turned it off by holding the sleep button and sliding power off. The next day on the bus, I tried to turn it on and it turned on like it was just in sleep mode even though I saw it turn off completely the previous day. The screen displayed the sync to iTunes picture you see when you first buy the iPod and turn it on. Since I was not near a computer for the whole time during the trip, I could do anything to my iPod. When I just got home though, and plugged it to my computer, iTunes said that there is a passcode on my iPod and I need to put in the passcode before it can be accessed. However, there is no way to put in a passcode or do anything with my iPod because all it shows is the sync to iTunes picture. I desperately need help because now my iPod is as good as a paper weight to me. I have not even had it for a year but I don't Apple will recognize the warranty once you jailbrake your device. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.
This never happened to me, but when I was on 2.2.1 jailbreak, it constantly reset itself, but I never had any problems with iTunes.
SilverOrange, I've experienced the same problem, except my second generation Ipod Touch isn't jailbroken. It's happened three times now, usually on a Friday! I'll charge it on the Friday, shut it down, and when I start it again on the Sautday morning it shows the factor settings screen. Connecting it to my PC and starting Itunes does resolve the problem however. Can't help you on the passcode, I'm afraid, but hopefully Itunes backed up your device. Perhaps someone with more experience can shed some light.
Yes, I did do that. Same result though. Sorry for double posting, don't know how to do 2 quotes in one post.
This happened to me but I say try the hard resset by first holding the home button while you plug it in to the computer and my mac usually ignores that passcode thing and let me go on so try that. EDIT: I mean't DFU thanks eggzbacon!
I put it in sleep mode. Then out of nowhere it reset itself. If I didn't do anything, it would do that 2-3 times in a row.
I put it in DFU and it worked! Thanks a lot guys for helping me! Now I have another dilemma, whether to re-jailbrake my ipod or not. If this reseting thing is quite common with jailbroken devices, then I don't really want to risk loosing all my game saves again. But if not many other people are having this problem, then I'll probably try it again. Please give me some feedback on reseting when jailbroken and whether or not to jailbrake again. Thanks
I agree that you should try again, and to hopefully prevent losing saves just make sure it backs up your ipod every time it syncs, that will prevent you from ever losing, a whole bunch of data.
