source? I'm quite surethey'll announce the iPhone version at theApple event on monday. (just a guess)
I see no logic at all, in scrapping this game. I think that EA will showcase it at the WWDC, this week. I have a feeling that lots of cool game releases will follow the debut of the new iPhone this month.
Money talks. Everything else walks. EA's IP franchise titles have not sold well enough while premium priced to warrant any further investment from EA in the iPhone marketplace. I've watched their sales and EA has performed terribly at the 9.99 price range and average at best at 6.99. They sell incredibly well, however, at 4.99 or lower. EA games at or below 4.99 dominate the EA marketplace. I doubt EA will ever develop high-end IPs for the iPhone again. They would want to sell Mirrors Edge for the iPhone at 14.99, but customers wouldn't want to pay more than 4.99. Hence the cancellation.
According to Pocket Gamer's Rumour Miner it's been delayed 'till autumn so it doesn't compete with Sim City Deluxe
^^ ya late autumn.....that's what they said in one of their podcasts......Who's the bonehead making decisions at EA??
In terms of absolute profit, companies can often make more money at a lower price point than a higher price point, they're just too stuborn or proud to do it. A pretty comprehensive study a couple years ago showed that itunes could move about six times as many songs if they dropped the price per song from $.99 to $.33--which means that they would double their actual profit--but instead iTunes has raised thier price to $1.29 for most songs. If EA moves five or ten times as many games at a $4.99 price point as compared to a $9.99 price point, they have made 250 to 500% more profit, even if they feel the game is worth more than $4.99. From the sound of things, ME would probably do fine at $9.99 with an eventual drop to $6.99 and then $4.99. Anything over $9.99 would be pushing it and would hurt game sales and profits, and really isn't necessary considering the size of the iPhone market. As to not releasing ME at all because they don't think they can charge enough for it--that wouldn't make any sense. They've already spent the money to develop it. The game is done. The only way to recoup any of their costs is to release it. The only way to ensure they never recoup any of their costs would be to cancel it. I think the game can still be very profitable once released into the massive iPhone/iTouch market--provided they don't charge so much that the cost rises above customer expectation and impulse buy thresholds, and they don't wait so long that its outdated before it even comes out. Personally, I think delaying the game is hurting its potential to sell well. Having downloaded Prince of Persia before it was pulled for the menu update it needs, I have to say PoP is an amazing game that really raises the bar for iPhone gaming and makes me think ME will seem really basic in comparison. If more games like PoP come out, ME (which looked incredible when first announced months ago) is going to seem antiquated by the time it finally does come out.
This actually does make some sense. I think that their games would sell much better, if they were of better quality. Example: Madden NFL 10 and NBA Live 10 were two very anticipated titles that to me did not match the hype. I purchased them both and was pleased and disappointed at the same time. On one end , they both had good qualities for portable versions, but were not as good as they could have been. Neither of them exercised the full capabilities of the iPhone/ iPod touch devices. The file sizes were condensed too much and the graphics were not as strong as they could have been. I say this because you have other games like X2 Soccer 10, which to me is console quality and demonstrates the full capabilities of these devices. I'm hoping that the 2011 versions of Madden, FIFA and NBA Live ( now NBA Elite ) will be of better quality.
EA are complete idiots if they actually plan on holding this back until autumn just because they are afraid it will compete with Sim City.
What, the same pocketgamer that claimed tekken iPod would be released, shi no numa would be out in 11th June and that Prince of Persia iphne would be delayed because it would compete with the retro version? Pocketgamer are t
