Alright I'm having the same predicament as many iOS gamers I'm sure are having. Should I go with Bards tale (never played the original but a huge fan of RPGs), Infinity Blade II ( played and very much enjoyed the first) or everybodies favorite surprise Black Ops Zombies (fan of zombie games and killing them). I have $13 in my iTunes so only 1 purchase can be made until tommorow when I get a $10 gift card so I can get them all anyway. I really just want the one that gonna be the best for me now!
Downloading IB2 and Bards Tale is taking forever. 2.5 gigs total! Edit Ahhh, what do I delete. I really have to start beating games in a timely fashion. Also, why am I a iOS hoarder?!?
I know we started the Impression thread, but I'm going to leave impressions and updates for Infinity Blade 2 here. It was such an anticipated game, and the Mass thread will get more views; especially since we're not stickied anymore due to being under review. This will be raw and written as I play. I think everyone should remember that this a fighting game (and a dang good one at that), not the next installment of a RPG!!! So far so good! It's been a while since I've played IB1, so I don't completely remember the graphics, but IB2 looks absolutely stunning. And I'm not even running an A5 device. I'm pretty sure things look cleaner than the first one and the lighting is superb. Edit The Japanese era/landscape just looks so nice. All of the buildings are very pretty and the greenery looks exceptionally lush. (Pre-Columbian for the third installment would make me melt) Edit Got to my first rebirth. Out of Japan, but everything still looks absolutely stunning. When you get this far look at the clouds; please for me. Really just take everything in! Even if this game doesn't get the best gameplay award, it will get the best graphics award by a mile. Edit Just got a good look at the armor and WOW. Maybe it's because I haven't played IB in a while, but holy moly. The new menus look great! I definitely prefer them over the old design. Gameplay is pretty much the same so far, but more evolved. It's harder to detect your enemies attacks for parries. You also do quite a bit of fighting at angles, which is actually really cool. Edit Same, good ol' Infinity Blade but expanded. Edit So, fighting is more fun due to it being more dynamic. The enemies have more attacks and they're flashier. Again, attacks are harder to predict. The magic attacks are awesome, since you can see them in full action. Enemy magic attacks look awesome and it's fun to deal with them . Ultimately, there's just more variety. Edit New Features: You can change you character's name (don't remember that option in IB1). You can get bonus XP for various challenges when fighting enemies (very nice touch, IMO). The dodging is like Dark Meadow, except you can make the buttons bigger; no more touching the sides of the screen to dodge (it's not too bad once you accept it; I will prolly still say something about it on twitter or their forum). Some treasure chests need keys. There are outlined arrows that point to hidden items. You can equip power-up gems to your armor, helmet, weapon, and shield. There are 27 total gems. Voice acting is really great so far. Isa speaks the old language in the first scene and, man o' man, I wish there could have been more. Nonetheless, I'm satisfied with the voices. Edit Some notable things: The fighting seems to run very smoothly, but walking around and cutscenes tend to be on the jittery side. It froze up a couple of times on me, so I had to press the skip button in the bottom right. Edit Decided to start a new paragraph for impressions on the story. Now, I've really gotten into some of the story elements and just WOW! I think I'm going to read the book a little later on today; no, I know I am! *I'll post more as I get to play more, but right now I'm down for the count. There are some serious crashing issues for iOS 5.0.1. I managed to get into the game and play a little, but it has crashed again. Don't know when I'll be able to start playing again. Edit Here's a temporary fix. It's a more drastic approach of what I did! I'm going to personally continue my way unless Chair doesn't make a fix in the next couple of days. Edit 2 I'm back up and running baby!!! Just had to crash about 3 times before I re-entered the promise land. I did have to restart at the beginning, but I kept all my XP and items. Edit Where you return in the game after crashing is random and sporadic. One time I restarted, one time I left off where I crashed. Also, as of right now, I have no problem starting the game. Edit 3 There's a pretty nasty progress bug going around. They are currently working on a fix!
Have to wake up before 8 for class tomorrow..looks like IB2, Black Ops Zombie, and The Bard's Tale will have to wait. Will definitely have time to play them tomorrow though. Can't wait until all my classes are over tomorrow. All that's left are finals. Will leave impressions when I get the chance.
Ok here's my impressions: Wow, cool UDK logo. Epic games, great logo. Interesting loading music. Glimpse of the pause icon... and back to my springboard. If you have an iPad1 running iOS 5.0.1... wait for an update
@ Backtothis - I can't wait for your impressions on all three! I pretty much make all my purchasing decisions based on your input now, haha.
Well Chaps whatll it be? I am thinking about the new Black Ops Zombies because I like playing social games but also want CrimsonHeart(which has been pulled for a little while hopefully) and Bards Tale because a full scale RPG sounds great! Any opinions would be appreciated.
I am happy to say that i got infinity blade 2 to eventually work on my ipod by stubbornly opening it after each crash until it finally worked. It's a little slower than the first, but still plays extremely well. I'm happy with the purchase. Black Ops Zombies on the other hand is sooooo laggy on my 4th gen, even with the graphics settings tuned down. And i'm only playing single player! I dont even want to get into co op! Infinity Blade 2 is highly recommended! Only reason to get Black Ops is for Dead Ops, which I must admit is pretty fun.
This. Not to mention the graphics are are worse than the ones from the original game, the controls are worse and not customizable like in the original game, the game is 15 times larger in file size, and there's only one map. But seriously, the framerate is absolute shit on the 4th gen. I'm sure it'll be a better experience when I try it out on the iPad 2 though.
Which Mahjong type game would you recommend? My wife loves them and wants a decent one. Variety, easy to use controls, etc etc. Thanks!
The Bard's Tale I will be leaving an impression in the Weekly Game Impressions! Thread much later or tomorrow because I'm getting lost into the game! Wow, I think this might be the best RPG on iOS to date. I feel like this is what Dungeon Hunter should be. Sadly Gameloft is more popular than Square One. D@mn, I just started and...d@mn. This will definitely make me stop playing IB2 for a while. For all the IB2 free roam haters check out The Bard's Tale! Here's a video until I post my impression. Edit The impression will be complete with pictures and everything!
The Bard's Tale is my GOTW. Although I haven't been able to play IB2 yet, I have a feeling I'm going to have a better time with this one. Really, there's just so much quality here. If you're a fan of RPGs, this an essential purchase. Great story, great voice-overs, tons of content, full of life, etc. There's just so much going for it.
Awesome week of releases, but let us not release December 15th, arguably the best release date ever so far. Real Racing 2 Aralon NOVA 2 Battlefield: BC 2 Shadow Guardian Dungeon Defenders: Second Wave Lara Croft Hook Worlds Geared 2 + manymanymore Although some were buggy, overhyped, or just not that good, Real Racing 2 and Aralon, combined with 4 major developer releases in ONE DAY is just pure insanity.
There's only one map? I was planning on waiting for sure anyways, but that just completely put me off of it. Plus I never even bought the first one yet, and if that one was better for the most part, and cheaper...
Just wanted to get these on the newest page!!! Have to agree with Backtothis. This will be my GOTW with IB2 closely behind.
Stable theory, but only for people with a decent internet connection. If I delete something like Infinity Blade, I'll likely be waiting 4 hours to get it back. Not really ideal when you just want to go back to a game on a whim. I'd settle for a nice 100 GB model. Also... not much talk of Zen Pinball in here, which is actually the game I'm loving most right now. First table is free, nobody has an excuse not to try it
Yeah, I see where your coming from on network connections. I usually just download big games on my computer and sync my iPod. Plus as of right now, I'm pretty sure there's a 2GB cap on games, so you could potentially get 32 major games on your device, which is a lot, but most don't hit that mark. I think a 100 gig model will be something I possibly buy a couple years from now. The only thing is Apple will probably make it expensive as hell, which is why I prefer SD cards. Plus with SD you can always expand, virtually never having to delete a game. But, we won't be seeing SD cards on iDevices for a while, if ever. Yeah, I think the major games got talked about thus far; DRWAPS, IB2, Bard's Tale, Black Ops Zombies. It's still early in the game week, and I'll definitely check out Zen Pinball. I just typically don't like pinball games on iOS. Edit Re-looked at the release week and there are definitely more games I'm thinking about getting; not 100% sure yet.
Look what's about to break into the top 10 paid charts. The AppStore is such a great place sometimes. But wow, even the background of the icon is the same as the one for Angry Birds.
