It's probably the best JRPG on the AppStore. At the very least, it matches up to Chaos Rings and FFIII. Yes, it's turn-based and runs just fine on the 2nd gen.
Most of the reviews I've read say it's a good game marred with a few bugs and not so great controls. It is turn based and the latest version runs on iOS 3.1.2 and higher.
SoM is a classic action-RPG..they're nothing alike. If you want an action RPG, get Mage Gauntlet. I'd go with CJS. Lol, I'm guessing these are iTunes reviews..the worst place on the internet to get impressions on iOS games. Do a poll on TA on what the best JRPG is, and I'll guarantee you that CJS will win. The bugs have been taken care of, but the controls do take some time to get used to. Nothing game-breaking in any way. ------ TA's review: http://toucharcade.com/2010/08/11/crimson-gem-saga-review-that-epic-rpg-you-may-just-be-waiting-for/
Yeah, but anything about bad controls usually gives me red flags, no matter the place. I actually think a lot of website reviews are biased, that's why i posted videos, so that he could see the gameplay for himself. I've never played CJS, but Square Enix is an excellent developer and SOM was a great game IMO, but I definitely respect your opinion Backtothis!!!
Of course, it's a great game..it's one of SE's classics. I don't think it's worth the $8.99 at the moment though. Mage Gauntlet is an amazing game for just $1.99. Crimson Gem Saga has an great story and tons of content for the price. You're going to be paying $11.99-$15.99 for a JRPG by SE on the iOS unless you're getting FF1/FF2, which are $8.99 each. And really, the controls aren't that bad. The only complaints about controls have been for scrolling through the menus, nothing else. Once you figure out how to use them, it's really not a big deal at all. It's not like it's a chore to move or fight; it's just navigating a few of the menus.
With all the good impressions about Mage Gauntlet, your'e probably right that SOM isn't worth the price. Good thinking on that on, B2T. I just haven't gotten around to playing it yet (too many promo games I have to play and review), so i didn't even think about it. Also, does it run on 3.1.2?
I don't know about the performance thing, but it ran well on my third gen. As for the game, it is turn-based and by far the best RPG in the App Store. I have played Final Fantasy III, Chaos Rings, the Gamevil RPG's, thr Inotia Series, Mage Gauntlet, and a few other RPG's, and FF3 was the only one to come close to CGS in terms of quality.
Forgot about starfront, for anyone also wondering, Starfront works perfectly. But we still have the way back tomorrow, any suggestions? . Exciting Offline mp Bluetooth! Challenging Co op would be great Thanks
COD: Zombies. Great Gameplay 2 Maps included. (4 on iphone) Wide range of weapons Bluetooth co-op $4.99 Review: YouTube: video
What's better, Fantastic Knight or Exitium? Will they run on a 3rd gen iPhone? I've heard Fantastic Knight has ads, but does Exitium have them as well?
Does Mage Gauntlet have a good story? Also how is the length? And are there "link to the past" like puzzles?
@ backtothis I have Mage Gauntlet, so should I pick up CJS and not SoM then? (I only have the money for one of them)
