I've never had this much trouble creating a website before. I realize I'm paying a dollar a month for the hosting and $13 a year for the domain name, but still... help chats from both sides are atrocious. So I have a domain name and a host, and I can't get them to play nice. So if you have experience with this, please let me know! I'd appreciate any help Thanks!
Man I got hosed on the domain name I think I finally got it figured out, thanks to someone who knew what they were talking about at the domain reg site. They had a DIFFERENT page for DNSs for domains hosted at another site, and their own site for DNSs for domains hosted at their site. What's frustrating is that every time you make a change with DNSs you have to wait hours to see if it worked
yeah that does make trouble making a pain in the arse. good luck let me know if something isn't right!
If you want a cool WYSIWYG website builder and host, try out Squarespace, they have packages starting at $6 I think. Great supprt and really intuitive interface. Seeing as you already have your domain name, you can link it in minutes. And no, I don't work for them
x10hosting.com They have a free hosting and a free domain name (whatever.pcriot.com) but you can pay to take off the .pcriot they have a 1 click installer of WordPress,PHPBB Forums, and many more. I know this stuff and what your asking anyways, the web server sorta needs to sync with your domain name....It's hard to explane anyways shoot me a pm please.
Oh jeez don't do this unless you're hosting something you absolutely don't give a damn about. The difference between spending $1 a month and $20 a month is hard to measure it's so massive. $20 can get you performance/uptime guarantees that actually mean something instead of "We'll do our best, 99.9999999999999%!". You also will get a phone number to call when you have problems answered by a human instead of filing a trouble ticket or posting on a forum somewhere with your fingers crossed that they get back to you that day. Not to mention your site will also be hosted on a server that has reasonable load averages and is backed up regularly. Most of these cheap/free hosting services are fly by night companies and I've seen far too many of them just disappear in the night without a peep because the people running them got tired of paying for their rack space... Or, in today's world, decided to stop paying for their Slicehost. I've been dealing with web hosting and development since the mid 90's, and seriously, you get what you pay for.
Well, STILL not working. There's a folder that says public_html where my stuff is and a www folder, I'm going to try to copy stuff to the www folder, but it SHOULD be in the public_html folder domainname.com and www.domainname.com point to an apache server page. domainname.com/main.html (one of my pages) gives me a broken link page
One of our many chats. Notice the confusion over http://www.itr.com please hold for a moment, I am reviewing your question. 24x7Live: What is your domain/site name? Debbie: www.intouchreviews.com 24x7Live: http://www.intouchreviews.com/ is working 24x7Live: IN TOUCH REVIEWS Debbie: I have some pages in public_html but www.itr.com and itr.com shows me an apache server page Debbie: what do you see when you go? 24x7Live: I see three columns Debbie: hey now I see that too ! Debbie: you fixed it Debbie: can you do the same to intouchreviews.com ? 24x7Live: Well I did not do anything Debbie: both are pointing to the exact same DNS address on my domain name reg site 24x7Live: intouchreviews.com is also showing same pages Debbie: I get an apache 2 test page 24x7Live: the domain must be in DNS propagation. Please allow some time to propagate and then check Debbie: and I just reloaded updated pages to public_html and www.itr.com still shows the old ones Debbie: that should be immediate right? 24x7Live: let me check itr.com 24x7Live: hang on please 24x7Live: itr.com is redirecting to http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...085/fundcom-20 Debbie: I'm abbreviating Debbie: www.intouchreviews.com intouchreviews.com == www.itr.com itr.com in order not to have to type it out every single time 24x7Live: So it is ok at me end ? Debbie: well I just uploaded some pages and it still shows the basic one you saw Debbie: the title should have a logo and a yellow background 24x7Live: your domain 'itr.com' is not pointing to our servers. Kindly contact your domain registrar and change the name server pointing to our server. Below are our NameServer details 24x7Live: ns1.host-care.com 24x7Live: ns2.host-care.com Debbie: it's not literally itr.com Debbie: I am abbreviating In Touch Reviews . com so as not to have to type the whole name every time I use it on this chat Debbie: the only domain I have is http://www.intouchreviews.com Debbie: http://www.itr.com is just a way to not have to type http://www.intouchreviews.com every time I refer to it on this chat Debbie: so.... I just uploaded new files to public_html and http://www.intouchreviews.com is not showing the updated pages 24x7Live: I am unable to understand your issue. 24x7Live: Please explain Debbie: I went to the file manager Debbie: I uploaded pages that look different than the pages you saw Debbie: they are not showing up Debbie: only the old version is showing up 24x7Live: Ok what do you see when you put http://www.intouchreviews.com/ on the browser? Debbie: yes Debbie: the top now has a yellow background and a logo Debbie: the logo image is on the public_html folder also Debbie: and it's not showing the updated page 24x7Live: ok 24x7Live: Please hold for a moment Debbie: nevermind Debbie: I went to http://www.intouchreviews.com/title.com and after refreshing it a couple of times it updated Debbie: so then when I went back to http://www.intouchreviews.com and reloaded a couple of times it shows the update Debbie: thanks! I guess I'll have to wait another day for itr.com
