I have been looking for one for my brother and I am looking for the best for the money. It would be for mostly gaming and would need to last a while. I dont really think he needs all the RAM but I had to add that to get the coupon.
Converted to £ that'd be a pretty damn good deal, but we always get ripped off, so maybe over there it's just average
No from what I can tell when I compared price of similar systems nothing came close and the closest ones did have this amount of RAM. I just wanted an outside opinion. Thanks for looking!
I think it's a steal. And if you've got an i7 in there, you probably would want/need the 8GB RAM to keep things rolling anyway. But hey, that's just my opinion.
Before you go off spending a huge chunk of money on something like that "mostly for gaming", you should check out Project Warmachine. They've been featured on multiple tech shows, including Attack of the Show on G4, and rated as one of the best gaming laptops you'll ever find. You can even customize them before you order them with how much space and ram you'd like, and even what version of Windows you would like to be installed. There's SO much stuff you can do, and it'll cost roughly as much as you'll be spending already after rebate. http://www.projectwarmachine.com/index.htm
No. GPU is quite bad to be honest, but it'll do, it's also quite expensive. Look for ASUS, Dell or MSI laptops, they're great. E: The i7 is good, but to save some money you could get an i5, which is also a very good processor. 8GB RAM is too high, go for 4. 4 is good enough, you won't notice the difference between 4 and 8, unless you have like 25+ windows open, which you'll probably don't have. This one is a good choice: http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=dydwfs3&c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&kc=laptop-studio-xps-16 16" is much smaller, and the laptop is faster (well, the GPU is, the rest is at the same speed). A 15,6" screen is also better with the 1600x900 res, the pixel density will be smaller because it's a smaller screen than the HP 17,3" which is a very good thing. This one is also a very solid 15" gaming laptop, not that expensive: http://usa.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=wGROClu9UevFOGKS Good quality, nice GPU (better than the one in the HP and the one in the Dell) and the rest is also very fast. Will do most games maxed. E2: Believe me, 8GB RAM is expensive and its bullcrap. You don't need it. My desktop has just 6GB, runs fine, my laptop has 4GB and I don't notice the difference between my desktop. Just get 4, 8 would be a stupid decision. E3: HP laptops are known to get very hot (well my old HP laptop gets extremely hot and my friend recently got one too which is also almost cooking). I'd just go for the Dell XPS or ASUS G51 (ASUS G51 is a real gaming notbook, has high build quality and is just very fast. It's not the fastest 15" notebook there is, but it's definitely a powerhouse). E4: Project Warmashine looks too expensive, plus, you can't choose the GPU. Also, it uses old CPU's, even the fastest mobile Core 2 Duo Extreme is slower than a decent mobile i5. If you're going to buy a 1500,- + notebook, get an Alienware .
It's decent. If it's mostly for gaming however, pick up an Alienware. Those are the best gamings devices EVER. Mind you, they're hardly portable
