So just got off the phone for a 5th time now, and it get's better... Not only did the rep last night fail to inform me of the proper amount charged on hold ($199 is what I was told, they actually charge $750), But he also failed to inform me that I would have to pay the $30 overnight shipping?! At this point I'm pretty steamed especially because the girl that had to break the news tells me it's non-refundable. I asked for a supervisor and finally told her my story. She gave me the option to cancel everything and head to an Apple store later this week to try and get a repair done. Or she could refund the $30 shipping but the hold stays the same on my CC... I took the option of free shipping seeing as they have already charged my card, and I work during the week so shipping to my work is just a whole lot easier... I'll report back once I get the new one. (Should be tomorrow? It's overnighted so I'm guessing so)
Keep us updated Brian. I had a go on the iPhone 4 today, my little cousin is a very kind lad and let me use it for a while. I absolutely love it. It's stunning and very much slicker than the 3GS. I just love the way it feels in my hand. The only downside are the fingerprints, but I'm likely to use a case of some kind anyway. His phone does have the signal loss issue, but only if you smother the phone for a minute. Guess he got lucky!
Yeah, that's pretty much the extent of my signal loss too. I have to really cover up the bottom portion of the phone to get the signal to drop. However, given I 'never' hold a phone like that, it's not really a problem for me.
Hahaha! Who is going to smother their phone for a minute anyway? Actually, if you cuddle the thing to sleep at night. >.>
LoL, I had to laugh at that... I cuddle mine every night... But that's good to hear that your cousins isn't THAT sensitive... Mine will go down pretty much the instant I hold it like that... Anyways my replacement should be here tomorrow... I'll be happy once I have a working phone and all this mess is behind me... If I didn't LOVE the iphone so much I would have given up last week... Even for having a "broken" i4, I'm still pretty happy...
Why in the world do they want you to pay $700? Shouldn't the replacement be under warranty? If anything it should be $200, what does the extra $500 pay for? I feel very bad for you, and it honestly seems like you are being robbed. I hope things at least turn out ok even if the process has been a drag.
I'm sorry I may have confused you a bit. They aren't actually charging me for good, but they put a temporary hold for $750 and once they receive my defective unit back, then they will remove the $750 charge. But originally I was told that it would only be $200... They do this so I don't just keep both iPhones and sell one. It's to prevent fraud...
Fantastic stuff mate, best of luck with this replacement. I want to hear good things from you in hope that I'll get some courage to buy my own!
Ahhh, don't let the bad press sway your opinion, there's always bad batches in Cell phones, even ones that have been in production for awhile, you'll still hear about a batch of 15k that have this or that... But thanks for the well wishes! The antenna issue doesn't bother me a whole lot... But this damn "NO sim" error is driving me nuts...
My pleasure Brian! Good on you for sticking to your guns and fighting to have your perfect phone. I'm thinking of ordering my phone from the UK Apple Store. It says ready to ship in 3 weeks, would you recommend using the online store? I'm a little uneasy of ordering expensive equipment online. ;\
I have bought a lot of stuff online just be where it's shipping to.. I ship mine directy to work because that's where I always am...
Ok got my replacement... I'M F@CKING PISSED... I was told I would be getting a brand new in the box replacement... This is what they send me...
This is not brand new in the box, IMO this is an open box item... I called and they "assured" me it's brand new... "Sir the phone is too new to have any refurbs"... Anyone have any expierence with apple? What should I do? This has been an absolute nightmare, now a year from now I wanna sell my iphone then what the box serial # I have doesn't match the phone Serial # I'm selling.... Am I being stupid about this and overreacting?... I'm just thinking I could have gone to ATT and got a BRAND NEW replacement within 30 days... This sucks, I haven't tested this one til I get home to night but I'll let you know what happens... Also any advice on what to do would be appreciated, Right now I'm thinking I mail my broke one back and try to bring this one to att and exchange for a new one...
Ah what the F man! This is what happened to my girlfriend with her 3GS. She got it replaced and when we went to get our iPhone 4's last week (she went for a trade in)... They told her she couldn't do so as her model didn't match the one that was on their computer. Really feel for you mate.
Wow, I've never seen an iPhone box like that before, the fact that it doesn't even say iPhone 4 on in (just iPhone) makes it look like a 'one-box-for-all' kind. Are they very common? Anyway, I'm sorry to hear you're having so much hassle. It really is a shame that you coughed up all that money and this is what's come of it. It really makes me appreciate even more that my iPhone 4 has been relatively hassle free. I hope this one works better than your last.
Normally, Apple does do replacements with refurbs, complete with generic iPhone boxes to ship them in. But there are no refurbs yet, though I'm sure they have boxes for them by now, so they sent you a new phone in a generic box. It's cheaper for them to do since the retail box is more expensive.
Well the issue is there is NO way to tell or not, if I send mine in then it could be refurbed within a few days no?... Anyways I just called at&t and they suggest I keep the replacement (Looks new to me, so whatever right?) and if I still have issues or am unhappy I should be able to go to at&t retail store and do a return or exchange... All in all I guess if this one works ok then I'll just go ahead and keep it... But seriously this has been the biggest load of BS I have ever ecountered trying to buy a phone... I hope everyone else has smooth sailing, but I personally have been set back pretty far by the expierence and will be highly reconsidering my iLoyalty... EDIT- I had mine replaced and the new one came in the black box that you described. It just has a phone in it, now manuals, etc. It's not a refurbished unit. They don't have any yet. When initially talked to Apple phone suppport, the rep said that since they don't have refurbished units yet, you will be getting a brand new phone. When I went to the store, the genius bar said it was new. The black box is just their replacement inventory. Now, I'm not saying that in other situations, like 3gs that it isn't refurbished, but the iPhone 4's right now are new. (I'm speaking in reference to 3 days after launch). I'm assuming that it won't be long before refurbs are available. So, trade it in soon. -Found on Apple Support
Well I found a small scratch on it... Tiny and couldn't see it unless you were looking for it, but still... Calling apple back they CAN'T/WON'T do anything... Unless its defective and then they'll send another "Refurb". the only way to get BRAND NEW is up to in store apple Genius discretion... And at this point I'm defeated... I'm taking my possibly "refurb" iphone with miniscule scratch and going to be happy like apple tells me to... IF I test it tonight and the death grip is still there I'll take this one into Apple and DEMAND, YES DEMAND, a brand new in box, or I'm going to return this at at&t and just wait a few months...
