It should be called iPod Touch 2GS There is no upgrade to the chip set in the 8GB Only in 32GB and 64GB Also the only way your getting a mic is buying an 32 or 64 gb because the headphones with the mic come with it or buy them for 70 dollars also the 32 and 64 gb have voice control like the 3GS So 8GB is 2G 34GB and 64GB 2GS or 3G
Three things help MS in that regard: 1. It's a Windows platform (specifically, ZuneHD uses Windows CE/Windows Mobile), so there are more already available tools for developers, and those tools are in C, not Objective C like iPhone/touch. Plus as 90% or so computers on the market use Windows OS, that means that the dev community can be potentially larger than the iPhone/touch dev community (which must use Macs for development) at the outset regardless of the smaller consumer base for Zunes. And some developers might actually be enticed by that smaller consumer base as it's a more targeted audience. 2. XNA, the dev kit that MS brought out for XBLA, can also be used to dev Zune games. 3. MS is merging all of their services. XNA, Windows Mobile (including Pocket PC platforms), XBLA, etc. If MS somehow gets Netflix on ZuneHD the same way they did XBox 360, that, coupled with the larger dev community and readily available toolsets, should make for quite an interesting product. Anytime soon? Perhaps not. But they didn't go with NVidia's Tegra SoC just for HD video. MS doesn't like losing developers for their platforms to other platforms. That's actually why they entered the console market. They saw more and more PC developers going home console and knew that they needed to change up focus in order to keep those developers using MS dev tools. iPhone/touch development has increased sales of Macs, as has iPhone/touch. MS ain't too happy about that, guaranteed. Will it match up to iPhone/touch? IMHO...no. No ZuneHD phone means it's just going against the touch specifically, which is a part, but not all, of the iPhone/touch userbase. But I can see some exclusive game support...especially since they are integrating the XNA platform across their products.
iPod Touch 3G is like the iPhone 3GS Apple has a very weird way of labeling their iPhone and iPod Touch models. They have a Part No., in addition to a Model No. The new iPod Touch 3G has model A1318. The Part No. is actually on the box. Here is a nice list of all the model numbers of the different iPhone and iPod Touch (all the different 1G, 2G, 3G generations) along with their Part No. http://www.edepot.com/iphone.html
I know this isn't a jailbreak thread, but since the 8gig 3G iPod is practically the same as the second gen, could that possibly mean that its already able to be jailbroken?
Just get ear buds with a mic on them... Such as the apple ones that come with the iPhone. You don't need to waste $300 or more just for a mic for an app.
