Dear TAers! iPhone OS premiere is going to take place on Januray 27th! I am sure, that You all, just like me, are waiting for OS version number 4.0 for our iPhones / iPod touches. We all have heard, red rumors about probably new functions, improvements and innovations of iPhone OS 4.0. I would like to know Your opinion, what, to Your mind, seem to be the most likely functions? Just a little tease-peak at the beginning: (It is real, not fake). And some info I gathered in the web about iPhone OS 4.0: 1) Multitasking (real one) 2) Multitouch in all of menus and submenus 3) UI changes, i.e. contact shortcut in the springboard 4) New method of sync with calendar and contacts from Your PC / Mac Best regards, Jarek
Apples battery life if a hole alot better then the Palm Pre's battery Palms battery lasted for about 3 hours with moderate use
Not really looking forward to shelling out another $10 to apple for a new OS, that in this case probably won't do much. At least we got Bluetooth out of 3.0, the nifty search, and notes became syncable...
I don't know what do You guys want from iPhone / iPod battery? It is enough when You are not playing too much, it lasts for 38 hoours of listening to music, 8 hours of surfing web via Wi-Fi. Is it that bad? I don't think so. In comparison with my old Toshiba G500 which's battery lasted for about 5 hours in standby... To be honest, the most I am waiting for visal interface changes. Contact shortcut in the springboard may not be the only change (I hope). Maybe at least we will get some real customisation without JB.
I've been pretty happy with the battery in my iPod - it doesn't last as long as my DS, but the device does more... It does seem that some games drain the battery faster, especially those with accelerometer control - I've had wifi up quite a bit for online games, and that doesn't seem so bad. It would be nice to see a proper 'sleep' mode as right now if you start an app and hit the sleep button, battery drains a lot faster than if you closed the app first... Also: I want more pages! (and/or hope they don't fix the page glitch, I've got ~470 apps on and don't want to lose all my pages!)
Ha ha. Yes, I did But sometimes, when You get bored of all games installed, You can just listen to music at the same, high level. To be honest, in a few previous weeks, because of all beta tests I took part in, I became addicted and sticked with my iPod for a long hours everyday just in the routine: playing-charging-playing-charging etc. After all, despite all Apple's denies about iPhone being gaming console, it is gaming console and, additionally, very good one I hope, that OS 4.0 will bring us some more hardware optimization and (hopefully) blur effect in games to elder iDevices, not iTouch 3G <16GB and iPhone 3GS. Ok, I can't prove that. Apple says so in their website. To be honest, I have never had opportunity to check this out but two applications, AboutBattery and Statistique say, that with 95% battery I can listen to music for 34 hours. I gues it is truth, as, giving an example, durning 8-hours bustrip and listening to music all that time, battery lost only 15%.
What I want, are LEGIT themes. The iPod can handle them (obviously...) and they could make SO much money by making easier themes to use and having them purchaseable in the appstore. Full themes, optimized for the iPod. Sounds, menus, background, etc. That's what I really want. Also, for apple to give us a folder system. I wouldn't even have to be jailbroken if this was the case. But, I also wouldn't be bummed if they came out with an iPlay or iGame. Dual Joysticks off of the screen with 4 buttons would equal EXTREME WIN! (Must have bigger battery though) I'd be better off with that than the iSlate.
Maybe, but Apple published official statement, that their intence was not to make iPhone gaming platform but social device to make contact with friends and family easier. I agree with every word of Your post. Such themes are a must and should be done already just at the beginning of iPhone / iTouch. Apple is complaing so much about jailbroking of their devices, but, to be honest, they did nothing to prevent it by implementing features users miss so much that they have to crack their devices to obtain them. In is definately inconsequentive behavior but we don't know, what is real Apple strategy and what is inside Steve Job's head. I own iPod touch 3G and it lasts for longer than 30 hours of audio playback.
I don't think I'll get this one unless a slew of amazing must have games are released that require this
I would love it if Apple would include a folder system and themes. That's my only reason for jailbreaking at the moment. Unfortunately, as they haven't taken the initiative yet since jailbreaking has been so common, I wonder at how possible this could actually be.
They'd better not charge us iPod Touch users because we don't want to pay for a plan again... this is why we got the iPod, so we didn't have to pay regularly. Apple seems intent on changing this.... Let's hope they ditched that crap, but they probably havn't... The one thing I'm really looking forward to is Multitasking. It's the one thing I've been wanting for a while now.
yeah, if this is paid, its not worth it at all. I waited staring at my computer for 13 hours, and as soon as i got in the shower, 3.0 came out, FAILURE! for 10, I wanted to smash the thing and Steve Job's egocentric mind but if its free well then ill get right on clearing all my JB'ing stuff so it wont hurt it
