Well from what I saw I think we can start to formulate a picture and list of things that will be available in the upcoming 3.2 firmware and next gen iPhone. OS 3.2+ Features* 1. Homescreen wallpapers 2. External hard drive file management (for specified folders on the device) 3. iBook store (a guess) Hardware Specs 1. At least a 1Ghz processor 2. 64GB/128GB max hard drive with 256MB memory 3. 5MP camera (a guess) 4. Recyclable aluminum casing (another guess) Kind of a sad list. Anything else that I can add to this list that are probables (not far fetched rumor) based on what we saw of the iPad today? * iPhone OS 3.2 does not support iPhone and iPod touch devices. It runs only on iPad. iBooks available in US only.
Just to point out to MidianGTX..... I said 128GB and he laughed at me.... well, who's laughing now???!!! There WILL be an iPad store for books, however there is no announcement whether it will be available outside of the iPad or not. Homescreen wallpapers.... yay! Built-in SSH on some folders... yay! Everything else is anyone's guess.
I'm absolutely positive that you said 86GB. Which DID make absolutely no sense. I'm going to be ticked at myself for buying the 3rd Gen Touch if the 1 GHz processor is announced. As for the OS upgrade, a file system and the built-in wallpaper/themes would be worth it in and of itself.
What I want from the 4G... OLED screen Adobe Flash player support for Safari Camera with flash changeable battery and case along with a different way to insert sim Camera on the front for Video calls Then I would be happy with the Iphone
A pony, I want a pony, oh and a rocket ship, and a race car, and my very own castle, and a mountain made out of cake, and a big, red bicycle...
Are you trying to imitate me Kamazar? Sir, my name is Russell Johnson I am with the FBI. Badge number 928 at sector 72. I need you to get your Plasma Rifle and blast these monsters away. Sir, i'm going to ask you to cooperate.
...mountain out of a ganija-cake and i take that too and some $$-Bill for Iphone 4G with OLED screen, Adobe Flash player support for Safari, Camera with flash, changeable battery and case along with a different way to insert sim,Camera on the front for Video calls
Realistically, I can see the following making it into the iPhone 4G: Hardware changes: - Slightly faster processor (probably 620-700MHz) - Addition of 64GB model - 256MB RAM (iffy, but possible as more memory will allow for more OS features as stated below) - Apple's new processor, but clocked down to be more friendly to the smaller battery. Now that they're finally using their PA Semi acquisition they're going to want to bring that to the iPhone, too. OS changes: The additional RAM would allow for: - Homescreen wallpapers - More homescreen pages, perhaps 15. - Full-sized and high quality image zooming in the photos app Other OS changes: - iBook Store to compliment the iPad. (Ain't no way Apple's going to pass up those extra revenue streams) - Dropdown menus (maybe; might be too small for the iPhone) What I really want to see in OS changes: - Folders, dammit! And organisation options to allow us to move apps into them. Screw this endlessly scrolling homepage BS. Let's let users leave out what they use most and store less frequently used stuff in folders so it takes up less immediate RAM (icons can be loaded at folder open), makes faster browsing of apps, and allows us to use fewer home screens. - Scrolling song and album titles in the iPod app so they don't get cut off. - The ability to view a song's info - A PROPER EQUALIZER. Those damned presets can GTFO and DIAF, as every last one of them sucks. Let's get a real freakin' 3-7 band EQ in here for frick's sake so I can adjust my music to sound like I want them. I have expensive headphones. Let me freakin' use them to their potential. I know you can do it Apple. I bloody well know you can. Do it already! - More Bluetooth profiles. I don't really care much about A2DP, but can we get some freakin' device profiles in there? Maybe let me use that Apple Bluetooth keyboard I've got on the iPhone? That would be nice. As much as I've gotten fairly proficient with the on-screen keyboard, on-screen keyboards still suck, mmkay? Oh, and MagicMouse support would be cool, too. Things you won't see: - OLED screen. They're not proven for longevity yet (blue OLEDs still suffer from the shortest lifespan, and OLEDs in general still suffer from colour fade over time) and Apple doesn't go with anything that can't stand the test of time. - Flash. It's not coming. Let's just accept that and move on. Might see some innovations when sites start accepting HTML 4.0 as a replacement for Flash video and such. - Camera flash. Don't expect anything that's going to ripple the smooth surface of Apple's industrial design. The more stark the design the better. - Replaceable battery. It'll never happen, much as we'd like it to. Again, this goes to their industrial design; Apple want no extraneous lines interrupting the seamless shell. - Front-facing camera. Takes up too much space, adds to the cost, would take up bandwidth for video calls, and if AT&T don't like Skype, they'll hate video conferencing. - 128MB Flash storage. Not yet. Flash memory still isn't cheap enough to go that high and still maintain their current price points. Apple works incrementally and 64GB is the next logical step. - Aluminum casing. Apple ditched that after the first iPhone, and the iPad already has an aluminum shell, and they're going to want to keep that distinction. - 1GHz processor. Too demanding on the battery. They might step it up as mentioned above, but not that high. Even if it weren't for battery reasons, Apple changes up and holds back certain features from its distinct lines in order to encourage adoption across those lines in order to get the different features. - Multitasking on the iPhone/Touch. Besides Apple's stated reason of device slowdown "ruining" the smooth OS experience, they've invested a lot in this push notification system and they're not going to let it go to waste. You might see it on the iPad -- and that's a big might -- only because of the faster processor, but not right now.
Is my sarcasm detector broken because it sounds like you're being serious here. Apple has proven time and time again that they intentionally use components that will have a relatively high failure rate (relative to industry standard) at around the time the warranty runs out. That's if there isn't some ridiculous manufacturing error which causes screens/cases to crack. Why else do you think Apple does a complete product refresh on a 12-month cycle?
I don't see how a camera flash causes slow downs. I mean every other phone handles it fine so I can't see it causing a problem, just seems like an excuse Apple say to dodge the fire. Even if it did some how cause slow downs, you're only using it when taking a picture so who cares if it causes a slow down then, you ain't gaming. Also if you have a problem with it then turn flash off. 1ghrz processor demanding on the battery... well the HTC HD2 is fine with one and that even has a changeable battery. Why doesn't Apple let you change the battery? I mean when mine runs out, let me easily change it. I mean let me change the covers like all other phones when they get scratched. Why should we accept Flash isn't coming? It is important for internet browsing. I just don't see how you can defend Apple for making crap products. Theres much better out there.
Question: Why must you continue to promote the HTC HD2 on an iPhone gaming forum? There are many other forums you could join that actually give a crap. I don't think you have a place here if you sold your iPhone, thus meaning you would not purchase any of the corresponding apps.
i'm guessing a 1Ghz processor bumped up RAM from 256 version 5 of their graphics chip, although the previous one in their current gen hasn't been used extensively yet. Also, on OS 4.0, i read somewhere that multitasking is confirmed http://www.redmondpie.com/iphone-4.0-features-9140368/
