Got pushed into the pool with my iPhone in my pocket (sucks because I just got it). I stuck my iPhone in a big ol' bag of rice, is there anything else I should do? The wait is killing me.
I'd say leave it in the bag for a few days, maybe a week? Just make sure you don't turn it on until then.
just wait to see what happens. if it's broken for life, then apple will give you a new one provided it's under a certain number of days. or you can get a new one and get this waterproof case for it if you get pushed again. (otterbox armor) edit: nevermind i though you got your iphone recently
i stuck my nano(wraped it in some press and seal) into a bowl of ice worked mostly execpet the backlight died reason I have a touch today
I suspect that the reason my last phone broke was because it got soaked with rain from leaving it near an open window. It was soaked so I dried it and 1 day after the Home button never worked again. If you have a warranty that is still active I would take it back for a new one even if it appears to be fine now.
If ur phone makes it through, get a case called Otterbox. It has flaps to protect everything that plugs into so if you drop it in water it will be fine if you have the flaps pressed down. Also, it has a hard plastic center enclosed with rubber and screen protectors for the speaker, camera, screen, and the apple logo. I have heard stories of people who have chucked their phone across the room with this case on and its been fine. One of my friends knocked my phone out of my hands with this case on and it was fine. The only bad thing is its $50 at AT&T
I actually bought that case the first day I bought my iPhone, but I also bought another case that was less bulky, I believe its that SwitchEasy skeleton looking case. I was trying out the SwitchEasy case to see if it was better than the Otterbox, and that day just happened to be the day I didn't have the Otterbox. I believe the case is $27 at Amazon though, so don't go to AT&T to buy one of those.
do you mean the defender? its 30 on amazon. i have it on my 3gs but its NOT waterproof and the phone wouldn't survive underwater trust me i know
Otterbox is the company. Armor is the case they are all talking about. The Armor is not for the iPhone, but for the iPod Touch. Source(s): otterbox.com
I didn't do anything, just left it laying on a carpeted floor for 10 days. Came back to life as good as new after I plugged it back in and let it recharge.
I spilled a glass of water on my iPhone 2 years ago. The screen went all white and it kept turning on and off automatically. Didn't know about the rice trick back then so I put it over my MacBook's exhaust, started encoding videos in the MacBook to make sure it keeps on blowing hot air from the exhaust. Kept it there for a couple of days and didn't switch it on once the battery died automatically. Weird solution but it worked pretty well and once I turned it back on after 2 days, it was working like new A month later I spilled hot milk on the iPhone and didn't even know it was there until atleast 10 minutes. Again dried it using the same trick but unlke water you can't dry off the milk completely Just keep it in rice and don't try to turn it on for atleast 3-4 days. There's a very good chance it'll still be working fine.
simple fix OK --- having been scuba diving and teaching chemistry for many years....I have your solution. The main problem with water and electronics are the rust created by the water and the salt in the water. So you have to get rid of both. The rice trick does not absorb that much water...you would be better off gettign some sodium acetate as it can absorb more than 5x its weight in water. You can get this from babies diapers or those desicant packages found in new shoes and purses. Look for them on the floor of shoe stores and grab them. The best way to get rid of water is to push it out or to replace it with something else. You have to get some ethanol. Pure ethanol. Then place your ipod in the different solutions of ethanol. I would reccomend starting qith 40%, then 60% then 80, 90, 95, 99 then 100. This causes a gradual diffusion of water out of the system and then at the 100 there is almost no water left. You can put it in 3 100% ethanol solutions if you want crazy results. Then just take it out...wait for the ethanol to evaporate and you should have minimized the shorts and rusting due to dihydrogen monoxide. Hope this helps ... I have done this on a digital camera and it worked...and a gameboy back in the day!
Well since I fell in a pool, is there still salt present? I'm not exactly a science major so... As for the sodium acetate, I've heard of that trick before but it seemed to be recommended the same as the rice. I'll see if I can find any. Thanks a bunch, I hope all this works
Hot milk?!? You should be more careful with your phone during your "alone time". @theone1007 Good luck with your phone man. I'd be pissed at whoever pushed you in, although i'm sure they didn't intend for this to happen.
