I am 90% sure I am getting an iPhone when our Verizon contract ends on the 2nd. I was using a gelaskins protector on my first gen iTouch, but I got a new one with my laptop and have been using a rubber case with square shapes on the back (i think its from incase).. A free laser engraving advert caught my eye and made me think.. do i really need a case at all? I have been thinking about getting a white iPhone to hark back to the original iPod days.. and this way you would notice it, and any engraving I got.. I will ofcourse us a screen protector, but how does TA feel? Im also wondering if I should keep the engraving short and sweet, and put my e-mail on the second line, maybe with a reward..
In all honesty it's the opposite, you don't NEED a screen protector but I would recommend a case. If you were to use your keys to try to scratch the screen, it wont do anything unless you apply a lot of pressure (or the keys are diamond encrusted ). Second if you get a case that covers the corners you can protect it because even though the screen is rather indestructible if you do happen to hit the right corner there are a ton of phones that get the spiderweb effect on the screens. Now granted if you had a screen protector on it'll reduce the cracking some, but eventually the screen may stop working. If you get a film I like one by Power Support sold at Apple stores which is an Anti-Glare one. Reduces fingerprints and smudges Edit: In terms of the engraving check if it voids your warranty just in case!
Indeed . Does nothing (again unless you put a lot of PRESSURE into it, but thats not from scratching thats from too much force)
the iphone screen is pretty tough but its expensive so i'd still buy a case+ screen protector just for the peace of mind
You won´t need a screen protector, but you will definately need a case. I use the Magnetflipper Leather Case from Sena.
Whoever says you can't scratch and iPhone screen is totally insane. I was on the bus the other day and I saw some poor sap with an iPhone 3g that was all beat the hell. Not to mention I saw another guy with his screen all shattered. All because they thought they were too good for a case. And granted. The iPhone is a beautiful piece of engineering and it's sad to have to put it in a case, but with enough research and time you can find a case that will fit well, and not make your phone all gaudy. I see people with terribly ugly cases all the time and it makes me sad. The first case I bought was from switcheasy, called the capsule neo. I liked it but it was kind of expensive, and the quality wasn't there. So I went on ebay and found the Apple knock off cases and I absolutely love it. It fits well, and it has a classy Apple logo on the back. Plus you can search around on ebay and find some more subtle colors if you don't like bright ones. http://cgi.ebay.com/CHROME-Back-Hard-Case-Cover-For-Apple-iPHONE-3G-3GS-BLK_W0QQitemZ170419750497QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPDA_Accessories?hash=item27adcf0661#ht_1448wt_1167 I didn't really care for the chrome so I got one with grey on the outside and black on the inside. But search around and you should be able to find a color combo that suits your needs. Other than that just check out some youtube videos and read some reviews. There are a ton of cases out there, you just need to find the one that suits your needs. And yes. Put a screen cover on it, just in case. You can't tell it's there and it saves your screen from key scratches or from dropping stuff on it.
i use a screen protector but hardly for protection. i use it to reduce the reflections (anti glare) plus i find i only have to clean the screen once every two weeks. also i use it for grip. my finger slides less with a slightly more grippy screen protector. the screen on the touch and iphone is pretty slippery for my taste
I got lucky with mine. Fell at least 6 six times out of my pocket, getting out of a car, onto asphalt. Along with that, it's survived a trip in the drier. There are, however, three small, semi-noticeable nicks under the screen, and the aluminum border is slightly bent. When I get my 3G Touch this Christmas, I'll be sure to get a case for it. Amazing what a beating it'll take, though.
I have an Agent18 case, and I love it! I've used it since I first got my iPhone 3G, 2 years ago, and it's still going strong. It is way better than the rubber cases I used to use. Mine: (black goes suprisingly good with a white backed 3GS) http://www.agent18.com/productdetail/iphones/slimshield-for-iphone/135.aspx
i bought a hard case for grip. It does wonders. No screen protector. I just keep it in my pocket isolated and its fine
100% BUY A CASE!!!! My iTouch would have had its life cut into pieces if it wasn't for my Speck case!
