Hi, Apologies to mods if this is in the wrong place, I wasn't sure exactly where to post it. Can someone explain to me what the point of using a lockcode for your ipad is? I originally thought it was a good way of securing your ipad in case of theft and the thief would never be able to use it but today I find out off a friend that its not the case. Simply syncing the locked ipad allows you to wipe it and start anew. so... whats the point of the lockcode if it doesn't actually block thieves from using it?
I actually don't see the point of lockscreens at all I'm sure security might be useful to stop someone else playing on your device or just for privacy but I don't think it will deter any thieves.
It's so no one sees the data ON the device. A thief steals it so yeah they have the device but they don't have your email, contacts, and other information - if you use the facebook app for instance no one can post to it cuz you left your phone on the table, etc. Supposedly the new lock mode in iCloud will lock a lost device to your iCloud password which makes it nearly impossible for a thief to even wipe the device though.
After wiping the iPad your personal data is safe. The point is to keep private information like passwords, pictures and the ilk safe from the hands of the evil doers out there.
Thats fine but tbh I'd prefer it that it simply locked the ipad forever and made it unusable. ok the thief doesn't have my private data, passwords and wifi information but still they have a free ipad they can wipe and use.
So take care of your stuff. If the lock was permanent there would be far more cases of people forgetting their own codes and bricking their devices than there would of stolen devices.
^Agree with the above The lock on the ipad is great, granted someone can steal it and wipe it clean but i'm more worried about private information etc, thats why theres a security code to input before anyone can use my ipad.
