When you put your iPod in sleep mode pre- ios4 it would shut off wifi for the most part (push would still work but it would check every 30 minutes or an hour then wifi would shut off again.) I don't see apple trying to fix this because nothing is really broken. Also it's a feature with ios4 because now when your iPod is in sleep mode it can still get a voip call.
I still like my iBrick Touch idea... If I can play L.A.S.W for more than a hour and half without it saying "You have less than 20% battery life remaining." I would be soo happy...
I've only had battery problems on my 2nd gen iPod Touch if an app crashes on me (usually due to compatibility issues). After that, the battery dies very quickly between an hour or two (even at full charge and with wifi off). I think it has something to do with a memory leak or something that is not properly closed when an app crashes. I've gotten into the habit of just powering off (red slider) and back on when an app crashes, and my battery life is now the same as it was with iOS 3.13. Try this for a few days and see if there's an improvement for you.
i have updated my gen 2 ipod. 32gig model to iso4. i have notice zero difference in battery life when left on over night ( i have the bluetooth off tho, never used it.. so maybe that is not as optimized as iso3). meaning, its not draining my battery checking wifi or whatever. so, over night power consumption is the same as far as i can tell by eye. battery life seems to be about the same if not a little bit better for the most part. however, i have notice some apps are real battery killers.. my guess they need to optimize the code or what not. for example,i downloaded npr music app ( some good music to found on there .) and that app eats my battery life like no other.. pandora hardly uses my battery. shrugs. thats what i have noticed. when will the new gen 4 ipods come out anyone know? i plan on buying one.. and retire my gen 2 ipod to letting friends borrow... or whoever picks it up on the edge of the coffee table. chris.
When I first updated, the first few days of use seemed pretty bad in terms of battery life... but I'm wondering if it was just psychological, because I haven't noticed the battery life being excruciatingly bad over the past couple days. I've been shocked to find the percentage dropping 20% after a couple hours of non-use, but that's not unheard of for my iPhone 3GS anyways and I had a ton of processes that were active in "multitasking"... once I turn all those off, it's fine.
No difference for me as far as I can tell, but I always have wifi/bluetooth off unless I actually am using them. But some games are definitely very battery thirsty: unity based games and Gameloft games in particular.
I haven't noticed any differences since os 3, it seems to be about the same except for the still-quirky battery indicator. I also have no idea why your batteries are croaking overnight, I personally haven't seen that on either os version. Maybe it's just because I only got my iPod in January, I dunno. Two things come to my mind to mention: 1) It doesnt look to me like you can turn wallpapers off, unless I missed that option somewhere. 2) All you people having troubles, are you using Battery Doctor? If not, I'd suggest it. It's .99 on the store, and it seems to keep everything charged reasonably well.
I have it, I don't think it does anything but keep track of your charges and the tips it gives but it helps me know when I need to do a full cycle charge (every two hours lol) to keep the battery healthy. But it seems that I am doing a "full cycle" charge every day as it only takes 2 hours at the most to get the battery under 20%... And recently I have been messing around on my psp and I had that thing since it came out and WOW! The battery lasted me that car ride to the airport, on the plane to Florida, in the ride to the motel... 6 hours of constant patapon 2 and mgs: pw! And it still had 30% battery life! Holy cow, why can't Apple figure something out to give the iPod/iPhone battery life like that?!
Sorry man its too late for me, maybe tomorrow? I know the best days to get me is Thursday and Monday night.
Longer battery life My iPhone 3G has longer life, but runs slower. However my iPhone 4 is lightning quick and has better battery life than the 3G.
Really? That gives me some hope. I am holding back upgrading to OS4 becomes of various problems people are reporting. Worst is, these people seem to have trouble rolling back to OS3.x again! That's one helluva lose-lose proposition!
Those people lie,or they are just lucky. My iPhone 3G drains the batterry like hell.In ~10 minutes it drained from 100% to 93%. P.S.Before iOS4.0 my iPhone needed ~1 hour to lose some %.
Well, before I got my iPhone 4, the battery ran flawlessly when I upgraded to iOs 4 on my good ole' 3G.
iOS4 on my 3GS drained it something stupid, running on my iPhone 4 and the battery is fantastic. Really glad I have my lovely new machine.
