When I'm playing with my Wii, it randomly shuts off about every 20 minutes or so of playing, and, usually, I have to wait a bit (usually ten or so minutes) before it can start again without immediately shutting off after I turn it on. I tried the help area at Nintendo's website, but nothing has helped. I don't have a warranty. Is there anything I could do?
That some lousy advice... Most Wii owners have a Wii to play Nintendo games, didn't realize the PS3 was going to have Nintendo games now. Anyways have you contacted Nintendo? They were pretty nice to me a couple of times with my GC and fixed it out of warranty.
Nintendo has pretty good service and it sounds like your Wii is in need of servicing. Put in for a repair and send the thing off to them! Make sure you request that they be sure to keep your saves and such intact.
Could be, also check that the vents aren't covered with dust/dirt. That actually happened to my GC after I had it in storage for awhile. Kept turning off on me and I had no idea why until I noticed the vents in the back were completely covered and the fan was stuck because of the dirt as well.
It's in a pretty open place. Also, I already have an XBOX 360 and a PS3, it's just that whenever I have friends/family over, they tend to wanna play with the Wii, and it's kind of annoying that it shuts itself off in the middle of a game. I tried emailing Nintendo about a week ago, but I haven't gotten a reply yet.
My Wii keeps stuttering during play. Like it'll freeze for 2 seconds, for about 2 minutes, then play normally for 10 minutes and continues that cycle. Sucks.
You might try the cleaning kit. It has worked for others to fix disc reading problem. Maybe this is a disc reading problem? It's worth a shot since it's pretty cheap: http://store.nintendo.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=146718
Make sure that the vents are not caked with dust or other stuff. If they are, being in an open spot wouldn't make any difference. Take a vacuum to it for a quick and dirty, errr, clean, fix.
Ehh.. it's alright. I mostly keep it around so I can play my Gamecube games and for the homebrew. And there were some pretty good games on the Wii, like Resident Evil: The Darkside/Umbrella Chronicles, Super Paper Mario, etc. Then again, a great Wii game is a rarity these days... I got mine when it was still new, so good games were actually being made then. Then again, even a PS2 or an N64 would be a better buy than a Wii. Since I got the Red Ring, the only time I turn on the Wii is to play either the Gamecube Resident Evil Remake, 1080 Avalanche, or Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles.
The 1st party games are all great. but the ones that aren't are pretty few and far between, and they're usually incredibly fruity and kiddy. Not that I mind a cute game every once and a while, but I don't want to use the Wiimote (*cringe*) as a net to catch bootiful buttafwies.
Well, some of them usually want to play on my other consoles with me, but for the most part, they want to play the Wii. I'll try that, thanks.
