Well said. Also Gameloft are actually showing signs of improving their graphics. For example Asphalt 6 is using a completely new 3D engine, and Shadow Guardian will look great - I read in an interview that Gameloft are really focusing on improving the graphics in this game. But anyway, as you said, creating a new 3D game engine every 6 months is highly unrealistic. Gameloft's games typically take between 10-12 months of development time, and at the rate they push out new games, I don't expect they have much time to be working on new game engines. That said, they have still managed to always release games with above average graphics. And when the next generation of iDevices comes along, I'm sure they'll want to take their graphics up a whole notch, just like they did for 3rd and 4th gen devices.
Exactly I'm pretty sure that most of these games were in development before Infinity Blade was revealed in September, most gameloft games take a 9-10 month development process
Haters always use the same games Spider, Eliss etc. Your so called innovative Games are so few and far between. What your going to play them forever? Seems to me that there are two types of TA forum members, 1. those that like console like experiences that likes gameloft, ea and other big publishers and occasionally good indie releases like ravensword etc. This type normally ignore casual and indie games thread. 2. The second type are the indie/ casual gamer. They like to apply as beta testers whenever they can and usually spam gameloft threads with profound hatred when it will much more convenient for them to just ignore their games and carry on with their casual stuffs. Makes you think of an interior motive here.
If they can "push out" a new game based on a new engine in a year, why can't they do it more often? I mean, what else is a programmer to do? All gameloft is really hiring is artists and designers, whose work certainly shouldn't take a year unless it's severely under-budgeted. Go ahead and push out games, I just don't want every game to feel like a hack n' slash jewel-collecting button-masher that some of their games seem to become. I'm not asking for a complete revamp, but I just don't want to feel like I'm playing basically the same game. Look how different Borderlands and something like Batman's Asylum play, even though the core of both games is still the Unreal 3 engine. Modern Combat 2 is pretty good, the brickbreaker game, soccer/football/golf titles, and from the looks of it Eternal Legacy. These are different games. But the case with Hero of Sparta, Avatar, Spiderman? Not so much. Plus, I thought we were all for "raising the bar"?
Spiderman was one of Gamelofts better game. And also, some games wouldnt play right with whatever engine your talking about....
Are you not allowed like both or something. I love spending time on harbour master just as much as Chinatown wars. Defender chronicles as football manager.
I think some people need to gain some perspective on what it takes to program a new game, much less a new 3D game engine. I guess it's just a consequence of us being involved in game platform where sequals commonly come annually (or even sooner). With that said, HoS 2 looks better than HoS one, MC2 looks better than MC1 and so on. I'm sure NOVA 2 will look better than NOVA 2. I'll say it again, some of you have such unrealistic expectations.
+1 If a game is good I could care less who made it. There's only one game studio that I would consider myself loyal to and that's Bioware and they won't be making iOS games anytime soon.
I have no problems with sequels bearing resemblance. But are you really telling me that HOS is genuinely different from Avatar or Spiderman? You can't possibly be that dense.
Yes they are different. And mind you spiderman IOS is the best portable spiderman across all portable platform, you may not want to acknowledge but that amounts to something.
I'm the exact same. If Bioware makes a game, I'll pretty much buy it without question. I'm not like that with anyone else, not even Blizzard.
Have you played all those games? If so then you wouldn't be saying that. They are completely different.
I'd say they are genuinely different, but obviously all run on the same or a similar graphic engine. I don't see an issue with that. In all reality though, why does it even matter? Spider-man is a hell of a good game, no matter how close or not it resembles Avatar or HoS. That has no bearing on the quality of Spider-man.
Eh, that's all beside the point. Asphalt 6 will be great, apparently running on a "brand new engine". Didn't mind the old one. Looking forward to GT Motor Academy 2 more though. Needs in-depth tuning, never before done on iPhone yet, but it would also require another "brand new engine". Perhaps Real Racing 2 will feature tuning? Eternal Legacy is new to Gameloft as well, looking forward to GL pulling off the the turn-based battle system. Starfront is semi-new genre, and I hope it plays nothing like their WC3 attempt. Great month for GL because of the new jizzness, not so much looking forward to Shadow Guardian though, we'll see. Especially in the wake of Infinity Blade and Aragon, both of which will probably be better by quite a bit.
With big companies seeing gameloft success , they have decided to release major games. Aralon and infinity blade are examples of games that companies would not have made for us , but did because they saw the success of gameloft.
