where would you go? I have a free airplane ticket as a grad present from my uncle to anywhere I want to go. Any specific suggestions? I am a student (low spending funds), and I love gaming, skateboarding, history, and *ahem* legal drinking... Responses appreciated
Anywhere? Damn I'd go to Japan or India or something. Europe bores the hell out of me, practically every country is the same just with a different language. Go to the Far East and it's like a whole different world out there, the culture is just so radically different and you learn so much from the experience.
I went to Paris 2 years ago and I'm fine. Just go with my first choice then: Rio de Janeiro. Also Midian, lol.
I'm not saying Paris is bad exactly, I just thought the article was amusing. I heard of the condition on TV a while back, it's downright bizarre. Something to do with the Japanese being brought up to believe that Paris is the absolute epitome of style and elegance, with many believing it's the most desireable place on the planet when really... it's not. I went there a couple of years ago and got bored. It was pretty much like London only with a tower and people speaking French. It'd probably be more interesting to people from further West.
You obviously didn't have a croissant in Paris. Otherwise, you'd be madly in love. I had a baguette followed by a panini (a good one, not that Panera crap), with a chocolate croissant to round it out. The greatest stuff ever. According to me, it's worth traveling just to try new foods. Italy has REAL pizza (you think Bertucci's is good? It's like play doh compared to Italy), India has some serious spicy food with some great sweets (I'm Indian btw), Japan really redefines what you think of the sushi roll, and Thailand has the best crispy duck EVER. Food is a central part of a vacation for me
You can get all of that food in the UK, especially croissants and whatnot since we're literally about 45 minutes away from France by car. Obviously there are the made-in-the-UK versions of French/Italian/Indian/Japanese food, but there are also places that sell imported goods direct from those countries and a whole bunch of restaurants with authentic dishes made by people from there. Indian food being my favourite by the way
Right but all that is not the same as actually eating in the country. Trust me buddy, you're not going to find fresh tamarind or saffron anywhere in the UK. You have to go to India, where it's plucked off the tree, washed, and put in your dish. You have to enjoy the atmosphere, of a tiny crowded room with dingy metal plates piled high with delicious food. Sure, restaraunts in other countries give you a sampler, a teaser of what it really is-but to really have experienced a cuisine, you must have experienced it in its country
I hate India's atmsophere. Coming from an Indian. But if you care enough to go to a country for food, do your research and go to the right regions of the country for the right types of food. Otherwise you're not getting the real deal.
That sounds like opinion, to me it's more about the food than the surroundings. Not that the experience of another country isn't awesome in itself though, as I said earlier in this topic I'd choose somewhere like India or Japan to go to. ...and we grow saffron in the UK, I'm not sure where to get it fresh but I wouldn't say it's impossible.
Just beacuse no immature asshole has said this yet, I will be the immature asshole who does... Inside of your Mom.
Anywhere but where I live. I live in the most boring place in the world. I want to go to brazil or some relaxing carribean island
Go to Taiwan. It's kind of like China but without the fear and poisonous food. Unless you want to see the Shanghai Expo, that event is definitely worth going to, even if you throw up a bit.
