NoT really because if you take a shot from the other end of the ice and the goaltender makes contact with the puck, the icing is waved off. It forces the players to have to make plays. Rather then just dump a puck from one end to the other. Once you cross center ice you can then "dump the puck" into the opposing teams zone and then "chase" it. This is refered to as "dump and chase" ALSO icing can also be a good DEFENSIVE tool as well. Example being...if the other team is buzzing around your net taking shots at your goaltender, you can "ice the puck" to force a stop in play to give your players a rest OR allow you to change lines
OMG! I signed up just to post in this thread. Good hockey games are the best sports games IMO. I'm so happy to see what appears to be a fun hockey game coming to the iPhone!!! I'd pay more than $10 if the game is really good. Sign me up for whatever mailing list you are using to announce the release. PS: Please use NHL rules (Or better yet... SUPPORT BOTH!) I think fighting is optional although others may disagree
Ahhh right. Thanks for taking the time to explain. Now that I understand the rule, I wouldn't mind having it in the game But it IS a pretty complex rule for those who only understand the basics of the game and you can feel pretty ripped off when it comes into play and you have no idea why.
Well the main reason people might not like it in a video game is because most people want constant action without stopage of play. However some people might want icing in the game to give the game a more authentic feel. Thats why if they had an option to turn the icing rule on and off it would be just right!! Same goes for the off sides rule
Customization If this game had a release date it would be marked on my calendar. Until then I'll just circle the whole month. I can't wait for this game and see it flying through the sales charts into its rightful place at #1. Now a few suggestions - stats, stats, stats, stats. One of the unsung heroes of sports games - Customizing Jerseys similar to the system used in stinger table hockey, I had a lot of fun making NHL teams and using this would be even better - a form of NHL 10's Be a pro mode - rosters even if the names are made up - no red circle around the puck. I wish you the best with possibly my most anticipated app purchase since the iphones release.
cant wait for this game been checking back here everyday sometimes 2 or 3 times got my money ready to buy as soon as it hits the store
Nigel, I think the idea to turn a puck "halo" on or off is a good idea as well. I was going to suggest it earlier actually but another member beat me to the punch. I would strongly suggest AGAINST the puck trail however. When Fox first implemented that technology, it was widely criticized and made fun of by Canadians and true fans of hockey. Seeing as how the true fans of the game will make up a good part of the 'early adopters', I would recommend against it. It was such a gaffe on Fox's part it was actually parodied in a commercial here (American gets thrown out of a bar with a red laser trail behind him), and will forever live on in the line of a Canadian punk rock band's song - Propagandhi - Speculative Fiction (Your stupid f$@&'n laser pucks were just the start). Just thought I'd shed some light on how the home of hockey viewed that feature. Otherwise, I think the ability to toggle offsides and icing off and on are good too for anyone who wants a faster-paced game. To help with anyone who doesn't understand offsides and icing, the purpose of the rule helps make it more clear I think: Icing is to prevent a team from simply dumping the puck down the ice to waste time...presumably when they're winning. Anytime the puck is shot past the opponent's goal line from your side of centre ice is considered icing (except when short-handed). Off-side as with most sports is to prevent cherry-picking or having a man behind the defense that you can dump the puck to for an easy break. To prevent this, the puck has to enter into a team's zone (cross blue line) before any player does. Soooooooo can't wait for this game!!!
To me the customizable jerseys isnt really important. Especially since this is a country team based game so they will want the uniforms to match the countrys colors. Maybe have an option to change from home and away jersey As for stat tracking....this is a must!! There has to be something to give it long replay value. While I think the "Be a Pro" mode in EA's NHL 10 might be a bit complex, I would love to see different modes like a season mode, playoff mode etc....achievements would also add reply and of course unlockables But as I have said since early on in this thread....the idea that someone FINALLY is creating a full team vs team ice hockey game, has me drooling!!
Hi In response to the discussions regarding the icing and offside rule we wanted to let you know there will be the option to turn both icing and offside off and also an option to turn off the puck marker. We are loving your enthusiasm for the game here in the office and your comments and feedback are really great to hear. We are glad you are as psyched as we are about the release. eve
Nigel, thank you for very being active around these threads and taking the time to listen to suggestions from posters around here. I was wondering if you guys are going to enter a beta-testing phase before submitting the game?
tHanks again for the update nigel!! A couple more questions.... 1. Will there be a season mode? If so, how will the ranking (or point) system work? 2. How will overtime / tie score be handled? Will there be a 5minute OT followed by a shoutout? Or sudden death 20 min OT periods
yes please have a season mode or if not add it later on cuz i know all the hockey fans would love 1 and if 82 games is to much just add a 54 or 32 game season or have the option to let us pick how many games we want in a season. That would be great
I think we need to have nhl customizeable teams as a huge nhl fan i would love to create all 30 teams on this game as i did on stinger table hockey just made it more fun to play with my family and friends
Distinctive- What's the AI like? Have you made easy, medium and a hard option or something else? Also, any heads up on a release date yet?
Nigel- How will you decide the beta testers...er, who you give the promo codes out to? (Choosing the top 10 people out of this thread...by how much they post? Or what?) Are you guys going to submit on time? Do you guys have an estimated time of submission at least? (Last week you said its getting finished up, and would be submitted yesterday or today if all the bugs got fixed...no update on this yet.)
