Ads in paid apps are one of my pet hates! I would absolutely boycot every game by the developer if they put ads in paid apps. The devs would find out one way or another that majority of people hate ads in paid apps and it is likely to do more harm than good to the reputation of the dev. If you spend a bit of time on the forums the general vibe is that ads in paid apps are not acceptable. I can think of at least 2 examples where devs put ads in updates and removed them or made them optional after the complaints from customers. "More Games" button in the menu is an acceptable form of advertising your games. It's neat and keeps the interface clean. Any ads that are shoved in your face are not acceptable. There are so many ways to promote you games that are not intrusive. How about Dizzy Pad where you get an achievement for checking out Scoops, another game by same dev. That's a very clever way to promote your games without ruining the interface of a very good game with ads.

I can agree with you if the ads are literally in your face while your playing the game. However, the majority of ads aren't like that. They are small and on menu pages. I don't see how those type of ads hurt anyone. I would never pass up a great game just because it has some unobtrusive ads. Again, the bottom line is they subsidize costs for the consumer.

If you want to subsidize the price for consumer..let there be 2versions... Free or classic version low price..and a pro version high price no iads .then apl people and dev are happy
dont hide the iad thing to sell the game
and although some people are okay...some people just dont like it...

iAds aren't even out yet, so when Rivozzz said "people hate iAds" that's a little misleading. The poll does state people are not liking the sound of them, but this response would have been the same if we had heard of AdMob 4 months before it's release.
I don't mind an ad on a loading screen, We Rule for example, nor do I mind one at the bottom of my screen, FML for example. It depends entirely on the game or app.
If people boycott developers, it's their loss as well as the dev's. If the iAds are as good as those demo'd by Apple, I'll try everyone I see to see what free stuff there is in it...

I dont get your point but people dont like ads...i dont like admob ads either...listen and see the number of people who wants or dont want ads..from votes
i will be very happy to see a low priced version with ads that you will stare at it all day...but at least for me...i will buy if existed...a higher priced version! With no ads

Why are you aganist a higher priced version with no ads???
And why are you with hiding the iad from consumers so that dev sell his app??

I really canT understand you...have fun if you love ads..dont force people to love what you like.give us a choice!

I respect your opinion. I am not against ad free upgrades, I'm just not seeing why people don't like the idea of them. There are already iPhone ads, so why not have better ones?
I'm not forcing anybody to believe me, I am just expressing my opinion. Even if I'm the only person in the world who likes iAds, so be it. I may even buy a little island (with all the money I save from not upgrading to ad-free apps) and have the flag as the iAd symbol. Then I'll sit on my island all day and play my wonderful apps, that run just as smoothly as yours, but be rested assure that I didn't pay an extra bit of money that was not necessary. I'll still support dev's though by purchasing DLC or whatever :)

Well I guess it's a little different when your using your parents money. However, I think I can stomach staring at some ads to save myself some money.

    No need to get personal.
Gaming is an experience. Some people like games with nice icon, nice menus, nice interface, etc. Ads simply cheapen the game, make it look like devs don't have respect for their own work. Some people don't mind them, some do. Best way to deal with this is to make ads optional. It has become an accepted practice however to put ads in free versions of games. Devs who put ads in paid versions get flamed and suffer 1 star reviews. Devs need to cater to majority of their customers and the majority made their wishes known quite clearly. Refer to the poll.

I'm aware of the results, and I understand some of their points. However, as I've said multiple times before in this thread: I don't understand why anyone would pass up a great game just because there are ads in it. And 57%(as of 8:48PM 4/11/10) of the people who voted agree with me on that. I'm not against people who dislike ads, I'm against the idea of boycotting a developer because of ads.

Ads in games ruin an overall experience and atmosphere. I used this example before:
Imagine you buy a Lord of the Rings special edition DVD (or DVD of a movie you really like) and when you go to watch it, there is a bar at the bottom of the menu screen advertising some chick flick. Yes, it doesn't detract from the greatness of the movie itself, but wouldn't you be at least a little bit pissed off?
Devs have an option to create "More Games" button, where they can have ads for anything they want. Why not use that option for those who are actually interested to find out about other games by the dev. "In your face" advertiding is annoying especially when the devs have other options.

Well although my father has passed away and although im working...i have not trouble at all to pay (and by this support) a high price to an app with no ads...but you all you want is cheap .99 apps and crippled with ads so as to enjoy cheap apps...ofcourse you dont have ds or ps3 because you can pay much for an app and you wont get ps3 till it is .99 cents and have ads to support you and your parents gained money! Because believe me with your point of view your father wont allow you to buy a single game for ds or ps3!

you are the twin of my soul loool

me too..and will rate it one star...he deserves it...he hided the app has ads to sell the game and deceived me

I'll tolerate iAds in paid apps, but only if they're directly related to the app they're in. For instance, if I was playing a game, I would ONLY want an ad with information about games from the same publisher. In a hotel-finding app, it would be fine to have an ad for a hotel chain in my area.

I don't care as long as they aren't in the game. Shove them on the splash screen or in the menus, just keep them out of the game.

    Eugekava is spot on.

Just speaking from an indie (PC) dev perspective- there are certain things no developer in the industry does, and one of them is introduce adverts to paid games. If you don't understand why the majority don't like adverts, then you shouldn't be trying to sell games, because you obviously have no clue about your target market.

Besides, adverts look tacky. If I made a great game, the last thing I'd want to do is slap crappy looking adverts all over it. Even Apple's new iAds aren't going to match the design of your game's graphics. Respect for people and my own game (imo) comes above desperately grasping for money.

If you want money, I'd suggest working on providing the exact thing people want to pay for.

I think it is a great Idea. What a great way for a developer to make some extra money and have the ability to improve his/her app or work on another. I don't begrudge them at all.
