Been having lots of fun with this. It's a fresh take on the highscore/survival genre. The pay model is very nice and clear. You get five attempts (game displays how many more games you have left - I like this) before you have to watch an ad. Or you can pay $2.99 for a premium unlock - thank you. The gameplay has you guiding two orbs (one for each thumb) with a deadly beam connecting them. Attack patterns are varied across the long lineup of alien ships you will come across as you make your way to the end of each zone. Game Center must be loaded manually, but once activated, there are a few great leaderboards to contend with. I'm getting better and better (#4 ATM) and really liking this for my go to game lately. Really would like to see more folks trying this out. Don't want it to get lost in the forums! A special thanks to the Devs: Nik, you've been a great guy to talk to. Now let's get some of those high score chasers in here!!! Glad you're enjoying it so far. Doom Well-Known Member Jan 27, 2011 412 0 16 Working for the man Northeastern California #5 Doom, May 29, 2017 Just dropped by to tip my hat to the Devs, I really enjoyed playing this game during beta! Now that it is out I'd like to say congratulations and hope more give it a go. The gameplay gets super frantic and the creepy music tracks add yet another layer of impending dread while playing. My best tip to give is watching the different characteristics of the bad guys. Some will track towards just one of your ships, so when playing keep them (your ships) close together for protection. When an enemy spawns to go after that ship, swap ship placement and you can drive the enemy away as it follows your other ship up the screen, then kill it with your beam between your ships. If that makes any sense it's an easy way to buy yourself more time. Other ships only spawn and travel vertically making their actions easy to predict as well. When using a hyper beam if you watch for the sides of the screen to turn color and get your beam to where the color was flashing you can take out a lot of enemies before they even have a chance to attack. Also while in hyper mode if you watch for a quick flash you can take out the enemies as they spawn onscreen as well..just keep your ships safely clear and use the beam! Great job Rinikulous, thanks for making a fun ass game that truly uses our devices as they were intended..for touch style gameplay! It’s like an onion - there’s multiple layers of interaction and adaptation. And judging by Game Center, you seemed to be the Hyper King! I just noticed that ship swapping strategy while playing today. I've finally made it to sector 5 and unlocked the 5th hyper beam. It's a game that you need to practice to keep getting better (like most) but the gradification of the slow improvement is worth the trip. I just read through this on the Rinikulous website and thought it was worth posting here: MEANING & DESIGN PHILOSOPHY "Aside from its gameplay mechanics, HYPER BEAM could be viewed as yet another metaphor for life - a simplified version of lifes complicated nature, tribulations and hurdles. Navigating, dodging and fighting constant waves of multiple dangers and threats, planning and remembering what youve gone through, learning as you go all these are meant to make you resilient, determined and patient. The inevitable nature of failure gives you two choices: pick yourself up and try again protecting the bond or let the memory of your attempts fade away. HYPER BEAM's twin-stick controls, the constraints of (limited) screen space, complimentary music and sound effects, minimal art direction, and enemy and beam behaviors all create an unique experience that puts the player in a position to embrace the inevitable nature of survival. Our design philosophy is simple - minimal UI and UX interactions, and focus on gameplay. We aimed for an intuitive design and content flow to make it easy for the player to navigate through all sections of the game without ever doubting the meaning of a single interaction. As far as gameplay is concerned, we made sure that, one, nothing clutters the players view only necessary interface elements are included to provide the player with information vital to his/her survival/success, and two, the games difficulty ramps up with every sector reached by sector 5, the players planning, dodging and destroying skills are really tested. Every design element is derived more or less from the circle shape enemies, players and hyper modes. Unlike other games in its category, HYPER BEAM doesnt employ unnecessary visual effects to convey its purpose. The game is aware of its visual language, limitations, and what its gameplay mechanics are trying to accomplish survive by dodging, destroying and getting hyper." The Infinity sector is after sector 5 - this is where the game becomes endless and super crazy. Also, we never had players be this dedicated and reference our site! lol The overall philosophy behind HB is simple - focus on gameplay and let player's actions and enemy's behaviors dictate the things you learn, the workarounds you develop, and the adaptations you make along the way to improve your chances of making it to the next sector. I really like the gameplay mechanic. I thought it was going to be frustrating but it's actually really fun. I think the best part is trying to set up multiple simultaneous kills. I don't know why but I get a lot of joy out of that. The way you control the beam is excellent because it uses relative controls. It's fantastic. Five stars from me. Money from me. Going to leave a nice App Store review now. Guys let's do this. Download this game. It's good. Great pay model as well. Damn fun game. Billy LordShad0wz Well-Known Member Nov 19, 2014 4,280 1 38 #12 LordShad0wz, May 29, 2017 To the devs. Hehe. I have one question. It said I unlocked new colors. For the love of all that's sacred where are they? I see where the new beams are. But I'm not seeing where I change the colors. Every time you play a new game, the color will change/randomize - could be an old color scheme or some of the new ones. LordShad0wz Well-Known Member Nov 19, 2014 4,280 1 38 #14 LordShad0wz, May 29, 2017 OHHHHH!! Lol. Actually that does make more sense!! There's so much you can do with this game down the road. You could easily add more beams and enemies and even backgrounds. So far what I like the most is definitely lining up as many simultaneous kills as possible. It's not that easy when there are enemies and bullets everywhere. And I don't know if it's releasing dopamine in my brain but every time I get like 3 of them SOB's at once I feel happy inside hehe. You just want to try again and again. That's a sign of a good game. When you say oh one more play. I knew after 2 games I was going to pay for this game. You guys did a great job.
