Ok, since having an iPhone 3G and the lack of multi-tasking and the home screen background (two of my most wanted features) I turned to folders as being my main feature of iOS 4.0. After sorting out games into categories (high score, shooters ect.) I am not entirely happy with the result. What do you think of folders, and how do you categorise your apps/games?
I haven't D/L'ed iOS4 yet but when I do, i will most certainly have a folder titled "games". This will free up about 5 or 6 springboard pages and make things look a lot less cluttered.
As said earlier in the thread, I'm using folders to make everything look less messy. Also, I'm going to have folders for completed games, to be completed games, newly released and stuff to try out before being deleted. *Deep breath*
Yeh, but I don't know about you but I have more than 6 odd games on my iDevice. I am asking how you will categorise these games.
I have folders by genre: Card games Roguelikes RPGs Match 3 Word Games Platformers Shooters "Jump" games Puzzle Puzzle 2 Defense Adventure Action
I'm still on 3.X and jailbroken, so I have two folders, one for Utilities and one for Games... the Games folder has 110 apps in it
Hmm... As I've got 25 pages worth of apps, I intend to make significant use of folders: -one to hide all the Apple apps I don't use -one for art/drawing apps -one for clocks (I am a sucker for nifty clocks ) -one for kids apps (for my daughter) -one for general applications I do use -several for games: - dual-stick shooters - RPGs - turn-based - action - Avoidance games (Tilt to live/Starball) - Game & Watch type games - Board/Card Games - wargames/turn-based games - SHMUPS - racing games - sports games - puzzle games (this will probably have to be at least two folders...) ...and that's what I can come up with off the top of my head. I'd try and plan, but I figure I'll just start fiddling after I get iOS4 installed. PS, I can't remember with OS3 - does migrating OS's nuke all your extra pages? (my guess is yes - in which case I'll have to organize piecemeal anyway: organize/reboot/organize/reboot...)
I have all sorts of sick machinations of sorting my now trazillion games, I just hope that updating to 4 won't break the majority of them. Thinking of stupid categorizations like: Jumping Falling Routing (looking for a one word catchy title for line darwers) Blocks and so on...
jailbreak your device using Redsn0w 0.9.5b5 and it will allow the usage of wallpapers and multitasking. I have wallpapers and multitasking on my iPod touch 2g.
I have almost all games, so I'll use Pick-up-and-play (like doodle jump and fruit ninja), Sports, RPGs, Betas, Pinball Sims, Haven't Played in Months, and Non-Games.
Apparently you misunderstood. I meant that I have 5 or 6 pages with 16 games on each page. You do the math.
Sorry, I'm calling B.S. There is no way you have almost all of the games in the app store. No iDevice can store 200,000+ games no matter how many folders it has.
My folders so far look like this: Apps 1 Apps 2 (these are general utilities and the few built-in apps I don't use) GeoLocation (maps, store finders, etc.) Weather Productivity Relax (audio relaxation apps, including mine, natch.) Music (FlyCast, Shazam, MusicStudio, etc.) Action Games Adventures Arcade Artillery Ball Rollers Casual Defense Emulators Escape FPS Games Racing Retrocade (retro classics) RPGs Physics Pinball Platformers Puzzle Games Sports Strategy Word Games Beta (beta stuff, obviously) Some of my folders are already full so I'll have to end up creating +1 folders to spread them out. Or maybe get more specific in my categories.
use of folders for me I am really peeved about not being able to have a custom background, but at lest I can have folders! I am going to organize my games by genre and put all of the apps I can't delete, like the stocks app, the weather app, ...etc., into a folder to at least minimize the space they take up. I am really surprised by this move from apple because after creating some folders and seeing how they looked it really is an inelegant solution and a little ugly, but whatever, it gets the job done. Now give me my damn custom wallpaper background apple!!!!!!!!
