technology is not moving to fast it's just that the whole economic system is way outdated and yes absolutely once automation hits a peak many MANY ppl will be displaced by robots not to get side tracked on a tanget but you also can look forward to perpetuatial inflation meaning the dollar bill will buy less and less over time talk to your elders they will tell you how much they "used" to be able to buy with 1 dollar in their time now as far as digital curricula I'm not looking to *replace* teachers here just want to update the medium and make the teachers job more easier
In this world, many learning experiences, particularly in college would benefit form the use of things like tablets and touchscreen tables. but like mentioned above, money is a controlling factor. textbooks can cost 50+ dollars, the economy is bad, and the technology is EXPENSIVE. plus, you cant give a kid a tablet and just expect him to learn. LOTS of software would have to be developed which could takes years and then would have to updated all the time, driving up costs. schools may well never ever be on the leading edge of tech. all the computer at my school are crap and most people barely now how to do anything above word processing and web browsing. Things have been done the same way for 50+ years. changing it is not easy, your ideas may one day see the light of day, unforunatly the probably will be restricted too university like VT and MIT as well as private schools.alot of people and alot of money need to agree to make something big change.
tru that... i never said it was going to be easy but its not impossible and im not advocating that every kid should have an iPad. im just pointing out the benefits of what a completely digital curricula could provide for education in general, with some thoughts/tidbits of how i would go about implementing that mixed in. the key is in the platform, it should live in the cloud and the device can be just a low end client and therefore doesn't need to be an iPad. yet the platform needs to be flexible enough to tie into the devices students already have "netbooks, notebooks, laptops, iPads, iPod Touches, chrome os devices ect" yes it would take a lot of code, and a lot of resources to make it happen, but its something that almost needs to happen sooner rather then later also re: your comment "you can't just give a kid a tablet and expect them to learn" the same can be said for any text book too
Sure, college you're working towards a degree. But, if there wasn't grades, how would children compete against each other? Most of the kids in my school are like sharks. If there's blood in the water they'll work to jump you in #. Half the kids wouldn't even try because they would know it didn't matter how they did, they would get passed & get into college.
We can buy more nowadays with our income. We have the most free time ever. Inflation happens but so does pay.
