I liked Bailout Wars, simple to play and it's kind of funny. The animations and such are good. But for their big name games, I bought a few like Blades and Modern Combat, but they're so empty, completely non-immersive. And they don't have to be huge games to do that, I think Canabalt is immersive and the gameplay is so basic it's not even funny.

For the most part, I'm just not going to buy Gameloft games anymore, they all just seem to be games that look good, but don't do much else for me. If they aren't going to spend the time to put some quality in their games, I'm not going to waste the money. It'd be better spent on indy games where you will see the quality that went into them, Jet Car Stunts and MiniSquadron are perfect examples.

I felt kind of bad when I saw how much of a clone Gameloft's Castle Frenzy, one of my new favorite games, was to Knights Onrush. :( I hadn't even heard of Knights Onrush before. Gameloft's business practices are very Microsoft-esque, but you gotta admit... They make some very solid games.

I felt kind of bad when I saw how much of a clone Call of Duty, one of my favourite games, was to Medal of Honour. :( I hadn't even heard of Medal of Honour before. Infinity Ward's business practices are very Microsoft-esque, but you gotta admit... They make some very solid games.

    Get over it.

When I see that a game was made by Gameloft it like recognizes in my brain as "This Will Be a Kinda-Crapish Game that Isn't As Good As It Should Be, But Sells Well Due to the Brand Name that Is Only a Brand Name Because they Make So Many Damn Games"...LOL

Except doesn't Gameloft make Gangstar? I don't own it but I always thought that game looked really cool...

And Family Guy: Uncensored is the biggest disappointment/total name-ruining piece of merchandise EVER.

Personally, I wouldn't go that far but I agree with what you're saying.

Yeah I read the whole thing. I just don't think these two specific games are coming here entirely due to Gameloft. I think it's part of the reason (GL showing that big games can have success on the platform and be profitable) but we've seen success from non-GL, big games as well. Rolando, Eliminate, lot of the EA titles (Madden, FIFA, Tiger Woods, CC) etc. CTW and COD would succeed almost anywhere because of their brands...they are coming to iPhone now because a number of companies have had success with big games now, not just GL. That's all I meant, but I do still agree with your overall comments.

Always thought that gameloft is a group of professional game designer who are not good enough to survive in the "real" game industry. I'm having fun with Dungeon Hunter (but it could have been much better), though.

No they didn't. The IW's leads used to work for 2015, inc, which made Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, the third installment of the MoH series. Infinity Ward's first game was Call of Duty. (Gotta love Wikipedia.)

There's been the discussion that gameloft is just copying other games. Not a very solid argument considering most games are a ripoff of something else. Fieldrunners and Cartoon wars where some of the first games which spawned a bunch of games of the same type. Most FPS are essentially a ripoff of older games like doom. Get over it people. They're games, if you dont like it dont buy it plain and simple. If you dont want to buy them b/c they're ripoff's of other games then you might as well not be buying any FPS, tower defense, castle defense, etc b/c they're ripoffs of other games.

They're a business, a very profitable one at that. 4000 employees to make games, some good some bad, some ok. All in all, great to have in the app store.

I always believe GL for not just iphone, but the mobile gaming scene, has always been a positive one.

Been playin mobile games since 2004 and lets face it, during those times, there were never any great franchises ported successfully to mobile and when there were, they were very poor versions of the console masters. GL was the one that consistently came up with good clones even then, and they had very good versions of Splinter Cell and PoP from their Ubisoft partnership.

Coming to the iphone, I think GL has taken the lead in showing what this platform is capable of. Before GL and MC, Gangstar, BoF, no one really thought just 12 months ago that FPS, GTA and Soulcalibur type of console goodness can be even approximated on the idevice.

I do think that GL should take this opportunity, now that they have achieved very competent levels in pushing the max out of the iDevice's capabilities to do more original content. I am sure the ability to churn out so many games in so short a time means they do have a huge pool of resources and budget.

By now, GL is a household name in the iphone/itouch community and that alone will sell ... even for new games. And they could do so with smaller casual stuff first to test the water before spending a huge budget on a blockbuster original new game.

And on the topic of having many games out, as long as they keep up the quality as they have now, we shouldnt complain and enjoy the games. And yeah, GL premium games are still cheaper than EA's premium stuff on first release. So that says something about EA's ability to keep up with GL not just on the quality of games, but the pricing as well.

Yeah push out all of these clones before the real developers step in. And once they do, Gameloft will have to go elsewhere to penetrate untapped markets. I agree that most games are copies of one another in the same genre, but the ones that stand out have something unique to the game. For Gameloft games, there's nothing unique about it, other than the fact that no one has released it on the iPhone. Face it, if there was Diablo for the iPhone, no one will touch Dungeon Hunter, and same applies to every other Gameloft games.

If there was blah blah blah, gameloft is making gaming on iphone, copycats or not. Some big developers are publishing games on iphone but almost none is a dedicated developed game for iphone all games are based on assets from games on other mobile phones.

Credit for gameloft for trying to make a game specificly for iphone with orginal assets.
