How do you play your iPhone/iTouch?

Battery drainages on many games is OUT OF THIS WORLD! How do you situate your iDevice while playing? Is it plugged in all the time? Do you go unplugged and then recharge it everytime? (doesn't that severely lessen battery life..) Do you use a third party battery device?

Reason I ask is I have had the iTouch for not even two weeks and the white plastic covering of the USB cable is already breaking apart. I have been playing games primarily plugged in. I guess it is not healthy to do that when you are holding the device in certain ways and moving it all around. Whoops.

What do I do? About gaming I mean... I already requested a replacement from Apple. I know they realize it was not abuse or an accident! The cable is not made to hold up to real world use!

I keep brightness all the way down, and bluetooth turned off at all times. That helps a lot.

I don't really play with my ipod plugged in unless I'm going to play on it for an hour or two (rarely).

I have two battery packs, the Mophie Juice Pack Air which I take with me to work every day and a smaller belkin model that can be used with any iPod. Both of those devices are capable of fully recharging an iPhone battery once. I also charge it in my car and have three places to charge in my house. Downstairs by the front door I have a 3 outlet / 2 USB power adapter where I charge my iPhone, bluetooth headphones and batteries.

The Mophie product looks cool. I was looking at the Just Mobile Gum Pro - http://www.amazon.com/Just-Mobile-4400mAh-External-Portable/dp/B001BWQTOC/ref=wl_it_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=I211ODILX7D2U1&colid=YO5FQU5BDYU1 - which obviously is a different kind of product. The one you have operates as a case and an extra battery! I might have to look into that.

Just curious about the included USB cable... does that work with both the juice pack AND the iPhone/iTouch directly? Can I just that cable without the Juice Pack?

A few things about the Mophie, it makes the phone quite a bit thicker, the back is made of the same shiny scratch prone plastic as the iPhones and it gets hot while in use. If you need a battery on you all the time that you can just switch on once the powers low it's a good solution but it does have it's drawbacks. The cable can charge both at the same time but you can't plug it directly into the iPod/iPhone.

As far as external batteries go you can't beat this: Monoprice - Backup Battery Pack for iPhone/iPod (1900mAh)

That is really cheap. What is the catch?

I don't mind making my iPod Touch bigger. My Android phone has an oversized battery and it is severely pregnant. People make fun of it constantly... but I am all about utility not looks. ;)

Still curious about the included USB cable. Can I just use it for iPod/iPhone to PC directly without the devicein the Mophie?

I try to play 2D, low-power intensive games (that pretty much excludes every Gameloft game ever made) like Sword & Poker, Blimp, Edge (well, 3D, but not a power hog), and stuff like that. I switch between games, music, and video a lot too. While others use battery packs (which I would if I had an iPhone), I don't really wanna sacrifice portability and just ration my use.

The cable is a USB mini so it doesn't plug into the iPod though according to Mophie's site you can charge and sync with the iPod in the juice pack. I've never tried charging because I only use it when I leave the house.

Heh. I bought the iPod Touch primarily to be a gaming device (my SOLE gaming device... portable or otherwise) and I guess it might not exactly be cut out for that without crazy battery packs and so on. A sacrifice one will have to make! The battery life on it is really pitiful and playing plugged @ home destroyed my USB cable in under two weeks! Ahhh.

Lol. I also packaged the cable in the clear plastic box the iPod comes in and carried it around to work and stuff so I could never be without battery power (while I still lack external stuff). I am sure that did not help. But other than that and playing Moto MX and other twitch games, I did nothing out of the ordinary that explains it developing a tear in the white coating. Boo.

I hope Apple does not charge me $19.00 when they receive my damaged cable. It still works right now... I just don't want something that has the potential to get worse. Obviously a rip leaves it vulnerable!

Just head over to monoprice and buy a battery pack and a ton of $2 iPod cables, it's the cheapest site on the internet for that kind of crap. Amazon probably has them for a few bucks more but Apple is going to rip you way off for something that basic. They don't even include the freaking cable with the docks!

I will give it a shot. I bought a cheap AC adapter on Amazon and it was DOA. But judging by Monoprice reviews, their products actually work.

Just get a pack of 5 off eBay or something. The cords are pretty cheap, regardless of where you get them (except maybe the Apple store, everything there is pricey).

I just use this Rapid- Wall Charger I got for like a buck on amazon, and I love it. Full charge in less than an hour from less than 10% to full.

You got scammed. Full charge in less than 10 minutes from 98%. Lol, joking, but I don't think that's very different from mine. I noticed the only good thing about the iPod's battery is it charges quickly. I'll measure how long it takes to charge it from 10% as soon as I get it to 10%.

I either play for a short amount of time on my iPod with no charger, then if it's for a long time I use a wall charger. My wall charger is a USB connection that I just use my standard cable and plus it in to the iPod and the ac adapter. But I always lower brightness and I keep all un needed processes off.

Wow, that's pretty impressive - it's weird but I find that my iPhone 3GS charges faster than my iPod Touch - I would have thought it would be the other way round??

  20. I keep a charger at home and one at work, so it's always charging at both places. On the go I have a Mophie Juicepack Air that's always connected. (The chargers I have are Micro USB that the Juicepack needs + the block USB to AC adapters that came with the iPhone)
