I seriously spend about 50 a month on apps during my college year and in the summer, when I have wayyy more money, I am spending like $100 a month on apps, iBooks, etc.

Like on one hand its not too bad, because I used to game constantly on consoles and spent around a $120 a month on games and now I dont, and back when I was dating my g/f I spent only like 10 a month on Palm Centro apps but all my money went to her which it doesnt now.

But what bothers me is just my lack of control. I see any app thats .99, and if it tickles my fancy I buy it, and half the time I barely ever use it. Or I spend money on apps that have duplicate function. Like my 5-8 apps that edit pics. Yeh they all do different things, but are they needed? I bought a VNC client for my phone because it looked cool. Bought a GPS I have used once for it (only 6.99 but still...). Buy games, play them a few days and never again. Bought iMovie to go with my Reel Director. Like why? Idk, never used either one yet honestly. At least when I buy iBooks I actually read them though, so I dont consider those a waste. I am reading War and Peace as well as a few others to tune up for school.

Anyone else have spending problems? From the one topic I was reading earlier it seems like a few others do haha!

Let's all stand in a circle:

"May we all be granted the serenity to accept the things we cannot change, courage to change the things we can, and wisdom to know the difference."

I suddenly remember Fight Club. :D

"I have over 50 versions of an iPhone flashlight and I want more! Oh God help me!"

This made me burst of laughing. This is a perfect summary of the problem.

    yes
Apple has an allowance program that's meant to regulate spending, you might want to try using that to coax yourself off of spending so much money. My advice would be to initially put in 45$ if you spend 50, and see if you can get it down to 20-25 or whatever your goal is.

Please tell me how to do this. I am so worried when school starts that I will blow money. I only have $100 left in spending money for the month and it just started lol. I bought $80 in apps and iBooks in a week basically, some clothes, and Netflix. However, I do have $225 in my alternate checking account that is my lunch money and spending money on the weekend so I am safe for that.

I'm asking this in all kindness, but can't you just control yourself? I know you have recognized the problem, and that's the first step... so stop? I mean limit yourself man it's all about moderation. I used to have a big problem with spending money on app store games, but I realized that I was spending over $150 a month alone on games, so I had to take a huge break as it was tearing me down financially. Now I only spend > $10 a month on app store games. I mean I know it's tough and theres always games/books that always come out that you want, but you just gotta control it... I dunno. That's my .02 cents. Hope you can kick the habbit. In the long run it's worth it.

Here's my tip: Remove your card from your iTunes account. It worked for me, mainly because it's too much of a hassle for me to go back and input my card everytime I want an app, which in turn forces me to value my purchases more.

Cilo's tip worked for me. I occasionally hit the Buy button, realise my card isn't on file and think "meh, I didn't want it anyway". Plus as Booch said, I saw how much I was spending and then noticed the amount of money didn't accurately reflect the number of great games on my device... so it was going to waste. Now I'm far stricter on which games I buy. It's probably gonna annoy some people and make 'em say "it's only 99c!", but screw them, I was spending way too much.

Lol, I know right. Or people can have no credit card and only rely on iTunes gift cards. It's a lot harder to go to the store and drop $40 dollars on iTunes cards than it is digitally from your account.

The logic I hate is, "It's less than a cheeseburger!" Well that isn't helping me if I just bought 100 burgers.
