you need to provide technical information.

You didn't even say which device it is.

So based on just your story I'd say restore if that doesn't work take it to the apple store.

There might be another solution but without knowing any tech specs it's hard to recomend any other method

that's not what I would call tech specs But it's a start

Well somthing tells me your no jailbroken. If so there is an app that might help but it's a long shot.

Sorry to say but you might have to take her in.

Funny thing that the accelerometer worked and you woke up and it didn't,

Unless it fell or any other variable between the last accel. Action and when you woke up.

Perhaps if you find the root, you can prevent it from happening in the future

I'm sorry I don't have a better solution, But seeings how it's a hardware problem I wouldn't suggest opening up your device, and even if I did suggest that, you shouldn't do it unless you played with open itouches before.

Restore again. Take back to Apple. Sorry this is irrelevant, but :)

As far as i know the accelerometer cannot be damaged. It is simply a ball which converts it's motion into electrical signals. The problem must be related to software. The best thing you can do right now is google this problem. You will find lot's of discuusions on Mcrumors and other Apple forums. Sorry i'm not much help.

It's less lazy to get up and leave to go to an apple store than it is to sit at home on google though  lol

this actually happened to me a few weeks ago. I just turned of my itouch for the day and planned to take it the next day to an apple store. But, the next morning it worked again for some reason. Havent had any problems since so maybe you should wait it out a little bit.

I don't know where you got ball, but it is similar to that, nothing physical like a ball, but it sort of works that way. :)

I know it's some sort of chip. But he was saying that it had a ball inside. It doesn't.
