By now i haven't seen any advertisement in Angry birds. Rovio has just released this is the website im talking about and I hope they won't stuff the ads in this wonderful game. If it happens then the fun will be spoiled.

So do most of you also hate it when you go to see a movie, that I'm sure you've paid way more than 1 dollar for, and are then subjected to the 5 or so advertisements that precede said film? Furthermore, do you also hate it when you see advertisements during the film? Naturally I'm talking about the trailers and product placement.

I dunno, I like the trailers to see what is coming out. Actually, we make a point of getting to the movies just a bit early to see all of them. Its practically part of the theater experience now, and I know a lot of people that enjoy the trailers. Product placement has been all but invisible in every movie I have been to. I'd say that is a pretty bad example, since ads in theaters are some of the most well done, probably since they know this is one of the few places they have almost your undivided attention.

The Angry Birds adds are not tiny, but I don't feel they're intrusive - they're on the pause screen (probably seen most due to level resets) and they're game related.

I consider these different from iAds or AdMob where you get random adds, and often in gameplay (shakes fist at iValet) or on the menus (shakes fist at Badaboo) The last app I complained vehemently about was 100 Rogues, which I paid $5 for snuck iAds into the game over screen. Doesn't seem like it would bother gameplay much, and you don't even see this screen much (unless you had a nice long game and want to review your list of kills...) BUT, having random adds, even for this short bit of time really blows the atmosphere (and one of 100 Rogues' best points is its atmosphere.) Thankfully they removed the iAds in the next update...

How about games with a "More Games" option on the menu? That's more or less advertising, but it's tucked away in its own designated area out of sight. I wouldn't mind if Angry Birds came with an "Angry Birds Stuff!" option on the menu.

I was trying to figure out why this might be true and then I remembered... television. Oh boy does the US get pounded with ads on TV! Over here we can watch a half hour show with no ad breaks, or an hour show with one break perhaps, sometimes still none. When we get shows from the US (most recently The Biggest Loser, my sister watches it ) you can see the programme fade to black then back in several times where, in the US there would be ad breaks, only they've been removed for our viewing pleasure.

Some channels are worse than others, it probably depends on their funding, but it's still nothing compared to TV stateside. I'd go completely crazy. It also shortens your TV shows, with episodes of 24 clocking in at 45 minutes when they could be an hour, half hour sitcoms really being 21-22 minutes long... they're stealing TV away from you :p

Actually I think I saw that, might have just been a link somewhere. Either way, if they could bundle all of it into the same place and label it, then keep the pause menu clean... I'm sure people would complain less.

Honestly I cant believe this is serious conversation. I had seasons and rio for a long time and didnt even notice the ADs. I have come to realize the online crowd just complains about anything like its a big deal. No wonder goverment gets to do whatever they want to people , cause people concentrate on stupid stuff.
Honestly to save power Iam only on wifi when I want to download something so I miss ADs other would see. I can understand if it was a pop-uo Ad but this is nothing remotely annoying unless your looking to be annoyed. Its like your going out of your way to find something to piss yourself off with . You walk around saying please will someone piss me the fuk off now. You wake up in the morning saying let me find something wrong , oh the sun is in my face I hate it, the bus is 5 minutes late that asshole , oh my boss gave me a ton of work what did he give carla to do that bi#ch!!
    I must be angry ahhhhh!

lol, love the "I paid $1.19 for this game and I didn't pay to see a bunch of ads" crowd. :D

I hadn't noticed the ads. I'm so used to advertising my brain automatically ignores it. But I don't have any philosophical issue with Rovio putting a couple inobtrusive ads for their other products on the pause screen. Doesn't bother me at all...

Do you have a valid argument against it though? Ads are usually pretty ugly, people like games to look good, ergo... reasonable request.

I have just noticed something though... you can turn the pause menu ads off. How has no one mentioned this? Tap the pig in the corner and he'll change to an unhappy face, ta-daa! No more Rovio news!

If you really don't care about ads then good for you, you'll have the opportunity to play a bunch of ugly games other people wouldn't, but saying you don't notice them?

I decided to have a look at just how much Angry Birds players were subjected to ads across the three games, and it took 11 screenshots to collect them all up. Without further ado, my comprehensive and haphazard guide to advertisements in Angry Birds:

    Angry Birds Rio:

This isn't an argument for or against, it's just in the name of discussion. I still think Rovio have done it better than a bunch of other companies. It's about time they broke the 20MB limit and gave us full retina though ;)

well, I can think of a reasonable argument against it. Validity is in the eye of the beholder I suppose. Look, the game cost a buck. My wife, kids and I have probably collectively gotten about 40 hours of entertainment (or more) out of it. If Rovio can make a few extra bucks by shilling their stuff in a little ad in the menu screens then I don't have a problem with it. Its no big deal.

they just don't bother me at all. They fit the style of the game and hardly stand out from the menus.

I have no problem with the way they included the ads in AB or Rio. I think it's petty to give the games poor ratings simply because of ads in the pause screen. The game is either worth $.99 as it is or it's not. I don't think this issue is even debatable.

But on topic: I agree that bundling all the ads into one "AB Stuff" button would get rid of my complaints. If I've got all three games, why am I getting hit with ads for them still?

Back off topic: I've never payed for an AB game :p My dad bought the original, my brother bought seasons, and i won Rio in a contest :D I never plan on paying for one, either.

I don't see why people are complaining.

Like Midian has shown, Half the ads arent even ads, They are giving people the option to send gifts to others, Which i think it awesome!. Then they are recommending other AB games which considering the game is an AB game is fine.

Really if no one can tolerate that then i'm ashamed.

Oh and thanks for the pics Mids

Absolutely. In fact, if I could pay a reasonable premium to guarantee a marketing-free experience, I would possibly go for it. Right now, I avoid theaters, mainly for the subsequently enumerated reasons.

I also prefer 99c/1.99$ iOS games to free ones with an ad banner.

I suggest folks who are interested in the detrimental effects of advertisements & aggresive marketing to watch "The Century of Self" or read "Propaganda" by Edward Burnays and "Consumed" by Benjamin R. Barber.
