Not at all. The first thing I do if I'm interested in an app is look for a youtube video

This. GT Racing: Motor Academy's icon looks so awesome in the App Store, and yet the actual icon on my iPhone has the most ugly-looking and annoying text I've seen on any icon.

 

Couldn't have said it better myself.
More often than not icon is a good indication of game quality.

I refuse to update Plants vs. Zombies to the most recent update because of the icon.

The worst: Cubed Rally Racer, Red Conquest
The so-so: Fruit Ninja (it would look good if it didn't have the openfeint icon), Super Quickhook (It looks like there's a piece of poop in the upper right corner).

 

I'm OCD about app icons but I would never NOT buy an app solely because the icon is ugly. Just hide it in a folder. Geez. Sometimes when developers get sales they update the app and icon. Further, some apps look better when installed or on different backgrounds or clustered together with apps of the same genre. Function/form.

On a side note, I just noticed that my first page has only apps with icons that are blue in (background) color. I didn't even notice until now.

 

I hate the Edge icon.... The gloss on it sucks so bad.

 

I usually spend a decent amount of time on my icons to make sure they aren't bad. I think its dumb when people take the gloss off and make the icon look like it belongs in windows 95.

I really find this hard to believe. So you created multiple iTunes accounts just so you could buy the game again?

Anyways, personally I have to have control over my icons..Design is a big factor. But if the icon is decent and it just needs an OF/gloss/etc removal, it doesn't bother me too much.

EDIT:

I really don't care for the gloss that much, its too much like "BAM! I'm gloss! Look at meh!" I usually remove it because it detracts from the icon design.

 

Honestly, I am pretty tired of the gloss on EVERY SINGLE ICON in the appstore. It looks really stupid and pointless to me.
