"Rockstar Games, the world-renowned publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), is pleased to announce that the critically acclaimed Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars from Rockstar Leeds, the winners of the 2009 Develop Award for Best Handheld Game Studio, will be making its way to the iPhone™ and iPod® touch this fall"

    ???

I own this game for the DS, but I'd prefer it on my iPod, better graphics, and the iPod is much smaller than a DS.

I think technically the 1st gen iPhone and iPod Touch and the 2nd gen iPhone all have the same type of ARM11 processor clocked at 412MHz. However, while the 1st and 2nd gen iPhones perform about the same, the 1st gen iPod Touch performs something like 10% slower despite being clocked the same. Maybe it has slower RAM or lacks CPU cache?

The 2nd gen iPod Touch is also an ARM11 but clocked at 533MHz so is up to 30% faster than other 1st and 2nd gen models. All 1st and 2nd gen models have 128MB of RAM.

3rd gen iPod Touch and iPhones both have ARM Cortex A8 processors clocked at 600MHz. Cortex A8 is superscalar compared to ARM11 and has more cache and presumably better floating point and vector performance, combined with clock speed could potentially make it 2 times as fast or more as the processor in the 412MHz ARM11 in 1st and 2nd gen models. 3rd gen models also have 256MB of RAM.

    actually:
iPhone 1G: 412 MHz and 128 mb RAM, 11 mb 60 MHz PowerVR MBX Lite
iPOd 1G: 412 MHz 128 mb RAM, 11 mb 60 MHz PowerVR MBX Lite
iPhone 3G: 412 MHz 128 mb RAM, 24 mb 100 MHz ? PowerVR MBX Lite
    iPod 2G: 533 MHz 128 mb RAM, 24 mb 100 MHz ? PowerVR MBX lite ( i think )
    iPhone 3GS: 600 MHZ + 256 kb L2 cache, 256 mb RAM, 350 MHz 256 shared mb PowerVR SGX 535
    iPod 3G: 600 MHZ + 256 kb L2 cache, 256 mb RAM, 350 MHz 256 shared mb PowerVR SGX 535

Where do the values for VRAM and GPU clock speed come from? I've seen no reliable source for GPU clock speeds, only estimates. And it seems unlikely that the PowerVR SGX 535 would be clocked at 350MHz given the high power requirements, when Intel only clocks the GMA 500 (rebranded SGX 535) at 100MHz or 200MHz despite being used in MIDs which can have larger batteries than smartphones or mp3 players. People were guessing before that GPU clock speeds might be tied with a 1x multiplier to the system bus.

    http://developer.apple.com/iphone/library/documentation/3DDrawing/Conceptual/OpenGLES_ProgrammingGuide/OpenGLESPlatforms/OpenGLESPlatforms.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40008793-CH106-SW1

I also don't believe there is a difference in VRAM available between the 1st and 2nd gen iPhone and iPod Touches. Apple's developer documentation indicates a common 24MB VRAM limit for all PowerVR MBX which is taken out of system memory. The 3rd gen models and the PowerVR SGX don't have locked limit on VRAM usage and can continue stealing from system memory until it's exhausted, which is 256MB on current models.

    Summer job soon

I feel like punching Rockstar right now because they haven't fixed most of the bugs from GTA: IV for the PC D:...

I DO have a theory though, it's probably going to be acceptable too.
Alright, so it should have came out at Fall 2009, I think it was acually submitted, but the game had too much violence for Apple. So, Rockstar probably didn't have the patiences to fix the problem and left it hanging, or they are still fixing the problem and trying to submit the game, I really don't know.

    :|, pretty good theory eh..?

your theory sounds very realistic. I also have a theory may not throw the game rockstar because of "marketing" as many games have been delayed. I just hope GTA for iphone not delay too.
    :(
