The iPhone does have 25% higher screen resolution than the PSP, which could offset some of the space saved by texture quality reductions. The PSP generally has more CPU power and less RAM than the iPhone so the PSP version might be using lossless compression and uncompressing it on the fly before passing it to the GPU, whereas the reduced CPU power and more RAM on the iPhone means it's probably more worthwhile not to use a layer of lossless compression.

I'm hoping the delay is because Rockstar is trying to put some extra content on the iPhone version. With Driver on the iPhone and GTA III, VC, and SA having references that parody Driver, perhaps Rockstar will try to sneak something in. Rockstar would also love the irony of including a Beatles radio station so that the only way of getting Beatles music through iTunes is by buying Chinatown Wars. Hopefully at the very least, Rockstar includes Independence FM so that you can play your own music in game.

Especially if there is extra content, I wouldn't be surprised with a file size comfortably in the 400MB range. Besides, once you get above 200MB, I don't think file size differences of a few hundred MBs will really be the determining factor of turning people off a game, with 500MB probably being the next psychological threshold.

Rockstar is probably trying to be very careful with the iPhone Chinatown Wars release. Seeing Chinatown Wars hasn't seemed to take off sales-wise on DS or PSP, if the iPhone release doesn't sell well, then Chinatown Wars would be 0 and 3, and the best rated mobile GTA and one of the best rated GTAs in general will also be one of the worst selling GTAs. Which is no doubt a honour Rockstar is trying to avoid.

If it means having a perfected game with perfected controls, I say let them take their time.

Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars iPhone App For 2010

If you are a fan of iPhone apps, then you should be getting excited for 2010. One of the newer games available in 2010 as an iPhone app is GTA: Chinatown Wars. This Grand Theft Auto app is already a game on PlayStation and Nintendo DS. It is the 13th Grand Theft Auto Game, so if you are a fan with an iPhone, then this is probably something that you are anticipating.

Chinatown Wars looks different from all of the other games because it works with a fully rotatable camera to provide more insight into the action. In this game, the player has the potential to take out as many cop cars as they can to escape the police. Basically, if the player accumulates more stars, they will have to take out more cops on every level. This is just another fantastic game to have available with you anywhere you go on your iPhone, which is exactly why it is much anticipated for 2010. The iPhone provides handheld action on a number of popular games, which is something that you can take advantage of on your daily commute, between classes, or even when you have some downtime at work. Get ready for this game in 2010!

well as long as its within the first month of 2010 I'll be happy. maybe they have made the decision to hold off a little while since there are many big name titles being released for the holidays and they don't want that to inhibit sales... Just my uninformed conjecture. I just hope its out soon. without any news of development it feels like this one has been in the works forever.

  9. I found the screen to small on the DS for this. Maybe on the iphone it will be able to play it properly.

Well as always MHz aren't always everything. For one, Chinatown Wars would presumably be architected to work with the 1st and 2nd gen iPhones which means it's more a comparison between a 412MHz ARM11 and the PSP's 333MHz MIPS R4000. I'm not sure which micro-architecture is more efficient clock for clock, but the PSP does have the advantage of being able to program a lot more low level and with a lighter OS so you can extract more end performance from it. I believe the PSP also essentially has 2 333MHz processors since, since the Media Engine is now open to developers which is similar to the main processor but without a VFPU although there is a FPU. I think one of the uses of the Media Engine is to handle these secondary tasks like I/O and compression/decompression.

errm the iPhone 3G can't have 600 mhz if it's slower than the iPod Touch 2G (533 mhz, I think). Do you mean the iPod Touch 3G? I beleeve that one's exactly as fast as the 3GS (600 mhz)!
