my mum doesnt look at or care about what i play on my consoles. i showed some GTA to my dad- he just said a funny comment about the russian mafia or something and just told me to have fun. i even told him bout drug dealing and he didnt mind. he knows im mature enough to understand this kinda stuff. as for the sexual references? well, let's just say that there is one mission where you have to drive some guy to a porn audition in a limo and all the while, you hear women's oooh's and aah's and the limo sways...
Agreed... it's a bit annoying but I can live with it. And sorry again to take this thread completely off topic. I really didn't mean to do so, just wanted to ask a question really fast.
You should just get it, it's an awesome game.. Consequences be damned! Better to ask for forgiveness after the fact than ask permission. In this situation at least, imo.
After a couple hours with GTA, I have to say the driving engine in Gangstar is much better and much more fun. Gangstar also has better controls in both the driving and on foot sections. And Gangstar's targeting system is much better as well. And on top of all that, the graphics in Gangstar absolutely destroy the graphics in GTA Chinatown Wars. I like the story and PDA in GTA, but so far the things you actually do in the game are more fun to do in Gangstar because of the better engine and controls. And while liberty city has more going on, the better graphics and camera in Gangstar make it look a lot better. I'll wait until I finish GTA to make a final judgement, but right now I really, really prefer the driving in Gangstar.
I'm pretty tempted to, but afterward I'd be asking for more forgiveness than permission. I think the thread has taken on a completely different topic...
Even though I like a couple Gameloft titles, I literally LOL'd when I saw the poll results in staggering favor of Rockstar's series!!! LOL! And having Chinatown Wars on the DS, I have to agree. West Coast Hustle is great from a technical achievement standpoint and a great San Andreas a-alike but I'd opt for the real McCoy. Sorry, Gameloft. =0)
they both revolve around the same type of game play but they are very different. If this GTA were 3d instead of 2.5d (or 2d im not sure which one) then it would rock socks. But i like gta more just beacuse its awesome...gangstar i like because its 3d
Outkast i agree with you they are total fanboys...Gangstar sucked ass....better graphics? hahaha yeah right. you gotta be kiddng me. Better story? better engine? nonononono....you guys are morons....(not outkast...the guys he quoted) actually gameadict isnt a moron....just the other dude. i agree with gameadict on Driver
3D! The game is freakin 3D! *Sigh* It is a 3D game with a 45 degree angle perspective, ya know, like Minigore?
Another thing is the loading time, Gangstar takes almost a whole minute for me, GTA loads (with better graphics, better AI and a bigger map) in less than 10 seconds.
I just feel like throwing in my 2 cents based on what I've seen/played. Gangstar feels more like it was a console game that was built for the iPhone. It feels like the console games with the nice 3D graphics and behind the back gameplay. It's pretty in-depth, and at the time was the only 3D free-roaming game, so it pretty much blew everyone away. GTA, on the other hand, is the original. You can't beat the original. The above view works for this game. I've played the old GTA 1 and 2 games, and to me it doesn't change a thing. It still feels fun stealing cars and then running over your victim with their stolen car... sick, but fun. And GTA really embodied that sick humor that we've all come to know, and that's hard to top. From what I've seen, there's a TON of depth and fun gameplay, much more than Gangstar. In this case, I'd rather give up a slight camera angle for better, more fun, and more in-depth gameplay. Again, I've only played Gangstar, but if I get around to playing GTA, it'll probably get my vote. As for now, I can't really vote, as I've only played the lite version of Gangstar.
btw, those of you that wanna say the storyline is better on ganstar, think again. seriously, gta has such a great, twisted unexpected storyline you wouldnt even believe me if i told you who stole the sword!
I'm surprised no one brought up Car Jack Streets... Man, I hated that game. They should have to refund everyone for that stupid &@# time limit. But I'll give Gangstar its props, like most Gameloft games they got the graphics and controls down good. Too bad the game itself is completely soulless. I don't get why they don't put any effort into story and characters in their games at all. I'd rather play Chinatown Wars any day though, it's a far better game, and one where you have to keep playing because you always want to see what happens next, plus there's always something else interesting to do. I had absolutely no problem whatsoever putting Gangstar down for extended periods of time.
As I posted elsewhere, the intro movie in GTA:CW is better than the entirety of Gangstar. I'm not a Gameloft hater by any means, but Gangstar is the first of their games that I deleted before finishing -- mainly due to boredom. The game is supposed to recreate the experience of being in a crime movie, and yet it failed to generate a single human emotion. There are no thrills I could find, no joy in anything you do, no laughs, and absolutely no surprises. It's probably the dullest game Gameloft has ever released. Other than that, though, I think it's great.
And what people don't understand is that the graphics in GTA are better than Gangstar's (from a technical standpoint, and in my opinion) Textures are more detailed, There is always more going on, It looks much less blocky, Very good looking night/day cycle, Shadows (pre-rendered, but they're still there), etc.
