I beg the question: what is so bad about losing the game? In fact, I beleive there is a certain level of joy to be found it it, and the subsequent alerting of unsuspecting, non-game thinking victims.
I forgot World of Warcraft! I wanted to see what all the fuss was about, so I picked it up a couple years back, and started up a character. It was cool at first, and as a veteran of EQ, the graphics were WAY better and I liked that you don't have to zone constantly to get anywhere. So I played for the free month and got to like level 25 and realized "Wow, this is lame". Finding groups was a pain becuase (at the time) it seemed from level 20-30 there was only like one or two actual places to group and get phat lootz, and the alternative was doing frustrating quests with little reward. The PvP also got old fast, it was fun at first but then, again, I realized that there were only 3 PvP zones, and one of them was only accessible to level 50 or above (maybe not 50, but higher than 25 at least). Not to mention the people who played were wierd.... I DID like though, unlike EQ, that you got good gear, at least for your level. In Everquest, you don't get anything remotely good until around level 50 or so, everything before that you either have to get lucky and have someone give you money or the item itself, or be stuck with stat-less gear. I liked how from the get go you could get some decent, level appropriate gear in WoW. ANd of course, I came to the conclusion that I was not going to continute playing the game about 2 days AFTER they charged me my first month. Which was lame.
Sonic Unleashed. The day levels were FANTASTIC. The graphics were great, you felt the speed, the switches from 2D to 3D were smooth, and when you were running in 3D, it felt like there was no limit to your speed. Sadly, each level only lasted about 3 minutes. I wouldn't really be pissed if I only got 3-4 hours of gameplay, if all they gave me were day stages and the pretty fun boss fights, but nooo. First problem, I had to trouble from hub world to stupid hub world that served as nothing but a place to store level portals. Why not just put them in one big world? Second, the night stages. I wanna play as Sonic, and go fast. Not a slow, sluggish werehog (wtf?!) with stretchy arms. The beat-'em-up action wasn't even fun. And no, that's not all to get to the later levels, I have to painstakingly find a bunch of sun and moon coins to unlock them. In the night stages, it's only slightly annoying having to hunt them down. In the day stages, I'm going at mach 2! If I do see them, I don't wanna have to try multiple to get them, it just makes my time worse. I love Sonic, he's my favorite video game character, but whoever came up with the werehog idea was a grade A dumbass.
