Hell, yeah. Today, you can't say anything regarding nations without being accused to be a racist - even when it is a fact. The sticks of political correctness are indeed buried deep inside the people's butts. But we can't just ignore certain things also.
O.k. - care to elaborate how to say such things (facts) in a political correct way? You can't. In fact, you're always stomping on someone's feet, because everythings is a matter of perception. The problem is not how you say it - the problem is how the receiver of your message is understanding it. If he wants to see a rasistic remark in a fact, he'll see it. No matter how political correct you are trying to discuss it. If it comes to ethnic origins or national problems in a dicussion, you're screwed.
Here's what I believe to be true about this issue: When you request beta-testers you always risk a bad apple among the fresh ones. This has nothing to do with nationality. Yes, it might very well be that the Chinese are over-represented in some statistic. They are over-represented in most statistic good or bad, there are simply so many of them! Even if you were to handpick beta-testers with their nationality in mind, how would you know? It's not exactly hard setting up a [email protected] is it? I understand your anger. What you've experienced truly sucks, but ruling out every single member of the largest nation in the world based on one bad experience doesn't sound particularly sensible...
Well, that's true. I am also not a fan of generalizing or stereotyping people. In fact I hate racism more than anything else. I was just agreeing with him that a large proportion of piracy comes from that region of the world. But every beta tester worldwide could be the wrong choice when you're having bad luck.
This is simply wrong. You could argue this is sales from these regions were larger as well (over-represented) but as I pointed out above they are under-represented. Massively under-represented. This is happening whether you are prepared to admit it or not. http://www.google.co.uk/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=china+piracy&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&redir_esc=&ei=_iSoTdOSBMWZ8QO2pJGnBg#q=china+piracy&hl=en&client=safari&rls=en&prmd=ivns&source=lnt&tbs=qdr:y&sa=X&ei=_iSoTfb4DIaWhQeXg6XICQ&ved=0CBMQpwUoBg&fp=ecf601ac4a37849c
And why is this even relevant? If certain people only use pirated software. Again I understand the feeling from being stabbed in the back by one of your testers. Any successful title is basically pirated from day one anyway, so apart from the emotional bit, it probably doesn't make a whole lot of difference. If a Scouser nicked your car would you claim that every Liverpudlian is a car-thief?
There are many reputable sources claiming piracy is rampant is China. That's why it's relevant. I'm not even that bothered by the fact this game has been pirated. All my other apps have. I know it happens. As I said at the beginning, this is why I don't even consider using any type of protection. Where did I say that every Chinese person is a pirate?
I can guarantee the potential customers you unaffectionately refer to as "politically correct" will not be receptive to that rationalization. I say again, regardless of your opinions, you might want to consider demonstrating professional conduct.
It's interesting that you started this thread to complain about ONE single person treating you badly... yet you feel entitled to post inappropriate comments about ALL Chinese people, saying none of them can be trusted. It's disappointing to see comments like this on my favorite website.
I think we can both play this game the whole day: Where did I say that you did? You stated that: "The 3rd world are pirating your apps rather than buying them." which is kind of all-inclusive.
You wrote on the first page: So whatever you do, do not use simonli2575 or any other variation of Simon Li as a tester. In fact, just to be safe don't use beta testers from China.
Excuse me, don't put words in my mouth. You said that. All I said was "to be safe don't use testers from China".
So if I'm a young computer enthusiast from China who enjoys computer games and has never copied a game in my life, is it fair for you to label me as untrustworthy and to publicly advise people not to work with me? Spoiler No. That would be morally wrong. You're quoting statistics about piracy rates. Using your logic, America has the highest rate of imprisonment in the world, so does that mean all Americans are criminals?
