Let's see how the first one does! I'll have to stick to my day job if it doesn't end up selling well. But...if it does turn into a runaway hit, you'll definitely see more titles from me. Although before I do something like a crossword puzzle, I'd try an MTG type game similar to Orions or even a Pokemon variant. Seems a lot of people would like to see something like that!
I was thinking of adding in new monsters, quests, and trials in via DLC. This way the initial app price can be set at a lower price point. Is that the way to go, or should I use DLC for "extras" like bonus maps or UI skins?
Alphabetix: Cereal of Fate. A delicious mix of alphabet shaped cereal with marshmallow orcs and goblins. Part of a complete nutritious breakfast.
I don't see anything wrong with naming the the game "Words of Fate". I know it has "words" in it, but I don't think that would necessarily be a bad thing. While the title would immediately jump out to word game fans, it also has a Novel-esque appeal to it that would attract people that are just looking around for a cool game. I think it would also be cool to include mini-games that aren't word based just to mix it up in-between word battles, like catch-the-gems (or runes!) or something simple like that. Is there any space to add on the beta testers list? Words of Fate See?! Reads kinda nice on page.
I would have no problem with DLC but as long as it was substantial to the price. Like adds a new area. I dont want to but it for €3 for only a new quest with a monster or something.
Should I add that they're magically delicious? If I go the food route, there's always Alphabet soup as well!
I definitely won't have FB or Twitter popup when you launch the game. I've seen some apps do that, and like you guys said, it's pretty annoying. I also don't like it when my Twitter feed is spammed with people's high scores from a game. I've unfollowed people on Twitter because of that. I'm trying to find a nice compromise though with respect to how things will be integrated. Anyone have a good example of a game that's done Twitter and Facebook integration really well?
Just out of curiosity, what's the reasoning behind this? When are apps ever sorted alphabetically in iTunes? PS. On the naming front, you've also got to consider what will look good condensed into the small amount of letters that are available under your iPhone icon Long titles usually look a bit silly condensed.
When games get released, they appear on a new release list in iTunes for a short period of time. It's great exposure for apps, especially ones that don't have million dollar advertising and marketing budgets. As an indie developer, getting featured on any one of Apple's lists is very important. The new release list is the only one that's guaranteed. Unfortunately, since so many apps are released every day, it gets difficult to be noticed, even on this list. Currently, this list is sorted alphabetically, so if your name starts with a letter at the end of the alphabet, your game could be a few pages back....and how many people will look through several pages? Most people just look at the first few pages when browsing, for the most part.
I really don't think that list is sorted alphabetically. Currently looking at it I see: 'New and Noteworthy' General Apps category-- Dexter, South Park, AppBox Pro, Toy Story, graffitiGeo, OhMyGolf 'New and Noteworthy' Games subcategory-- Blokuz, Unify, Faceoff, Fare City, Dexter, The Lost Symbol, Oil Spill, Pandorum, World Reaction, Cheese Collect, Cowns in Space, MindBlender... I don't see a method to that madness, and certainly not alphabetical!
