I'll swap out that mage pic to show you guys how the faction selection fits into the leaderboards. People who've played WoW or even Warhammer might find this a little familiar.
Any suggestions on what the faction names should be? Basically you have two groups that are fighting with each other. This is more of a political or class (rich vs poor), versus two armies fighting.
Is there a backstory for these 2 groups? In other words, what's the difference between them, and why are they fighting each other?
Do you have any lands/countries decided on or maybe one group living in a more rugged area that the other? Or do you have a favorite medieval culture or area...that could lead to ideas for norse/danish names, versus, german, french, italian, english type names. ...just throwing some brainstorming ideas out
Heya DG, Yep, the map is actually divided up into 4 zones, each with its own type of terrain (which can be seen from the zoomed in map view as well as the area names within that region) as well as monsters that inhabit that locale. For example the western part of the map where you initially start is inhabited by werewolves. Vampires roam the northern areas, while zombies to the east, and demons to the south. The factions themselves have more to do with the City of Baelnfor. Not necessarily a good vs. evil struggle....but more of a rich vs. poor, noble vs. peasant, or even a brawn vs. brain thing.
Ok, removed the mage pic (sorry fellas!) to show what the leaderboards look like. In addition to the local scores, there's an global online leaderboards as well. If you look at the top, you'll also see a Faction score. Those numbers will be updated as people continue to upload their scores. Just to catch you guys up in case you haven't been following along. The quests are repeatable, the monsters in the arena can be fought as many times as you like, and the time trials can be completed multiple times. What this means is if you only like to play games from finish to end, you can take the strictly single player route, and unlock all the quests, areas, monsters, and time trials and be done. On the other hand, if you're more into the competitive spirit of things, you can repeat the quests, monster battles, etc. not only to improve your own high score, but to help the faction you are currently favoring. In a way it's similar to faction or rep grinding in WoW or the territory control in Warhammer. Once the rankings and unlockable achievements are fleshed out, this should add a whole new dimension to the gameplay.
Glad to hear it I'm trying to cater to two (or I guess 3) different audiences by including the faction element. The first audience is the group of people that like casual games and like playing things at their own pace. I see them playing through the story mode, completing all the quests, and unlocking all the...unlockables, lol. The second audience is the in between group that plays a moderate amount but doesn't get caught up in competition, but still likes a challenge. I see this group playing through the story mode as well to unlock all the monsters and trials, and then mostly playing the coliseum and time trials to get a higher score on the leaderboards. The third audience is the hardcore group that doesn't mind spending lots of time grinding to benefit their character or team. Almost like resource grinding in mmorpgs. I see this group doing the same as the second audience, but with the faction component in mind. Since your character isn't tied to a particular faction, you can change your mind at any time, almost like a mercenary for hire. So for example, say you launch Fuzion and upon checking the Records screen you see that the Nienski-vo (working title) faction is leading 60-40. Well, you could battle a bunch of monsters in the arena, and build up a decent amount of "faction points" that you can submit for the opposition, so that the score evens up to 50-50. Well you can now change your mind, and decide to help Nienski-vo again, and this time complete a bunch of time trials, once again building up faction points and then submitting to Nienski-vo. In this way it's a constant tug of war battle...some days one faction might dominate, while other days the opposite faction could take the lead.
It's funny...after about 70 people voted, half the people said to change the name, while the other half is divided over keeping the name or having Kanye interrupt (lol). Going to have a mod remove the poll from this thread now, and I'll make a decision in the upcoming days. Thanks to all who voted!
With respect to achievements, should they be more milestone accomplishments ( a certain percentage of the game completed, etc.) or more bragging rights oriented (beat a monster a certain number of times, or achieved a certain global ranking, etc.)...or a combination of both?
Last call for beta testers today! If you're interested, make sure you pm me your UDID. I've created a TA group, and will send out invitations once I've sorted all the information.
I say a combo of both...getting achievements is fun I never listen to my own music...please entertain me .
I like both achievements. On xbox I like the standard beat this level etc... but then its nice to have those extra ones that make you work for them. Also i usually llisten to my own music
Same view on achievements, opposite view on music. I'm going to see what I can do with respect to listening to your own music while playing.
I don't really want to create another thread for a poll on pricing, but I was wondering what people think I should charge. All that pricing talk in the Ravensword thread has me curious as to what the best price point would be. Since this is an indie title with a non branded IP, would $4.99 be reasonable? I definitely don't want to do the 99 cent route, but figured I'd get some opinions. Maybe spiffy can make an appearance and share some wisdom
