Hmm, I don't know then...to the best of my knowledge, applications were sorted alphabetically according to release day. Unless they changed something recently, that's how it's always been, based on what developers have been saying in the dev forum. Can someone confirm?
No the games he is stating is the news and note worthy. all games released in the just released are all alphabetical
Got a name for you: "Advent Rune(s): Words of Fate" What do you think? Not bad, right? Has a sort of mystical quality. I originally thought of "Advent Dawn", but that turned out to be a guild on World of Warcraft or something like that. Sending UDID now.
yeah New and Noteworthy are random. They pick like 6 (8 now with new format?) of the latest - don't know what they base their decision on since I have thought others were more worthy on certain weeks - and feature them in their four screen section. If you go to the subcategory they will alphabetize each day's release. So hopefully you get released during a slow period so it stays on that list for a long time. I think you have a good shot with subcategories since you can choose (probably - not sure the criteria) puzzle and rpg. Since there aren't many rpg apps released per day (shoot they include those extra points ones, well hopefully not that week!) you should be able to hit the front page for a couple days. Right now the RPG page has three days worth - and six of them are Simon the Sorcerer in different languages. And one is iWipe - how is THAT an RPG. Anyway, puzzle section has 2 days but they are already starting today's releases so that will quickly become a day and a half or so. The release date page is tricky since you have to keep changing your date in the Connect log or something? I am not a developer but have read threads about being careful to keep your date current and not the submission date so it will appear on the first page. And look at me telling you something you probably already know!
I agree with the length of the name. Not only can it become a mouthful, but it will look bad on the icon. Unless you can program it so that a key word is associated with the icon. I hate when someone names something longish and then its like "King.........th" on your icon. Ok so _I_ will know what it is, but it looks kind of silly. I like much better those that choose just one word out of the title. Also though I am impressed with some of the creativity of some of the ones mentioned, to me I remember the shorter names better to do searches on the threads, on iTunes, etc. Sometimes I find myself thinking - Kingdom of whaaaa? So I guess my vote (since I like Quest to be in the name to refer to an RPG and Word to refer to the word game aspect) -- WordQuest -- which I believe was mentioned before. Though after looking up this thread so many times, Fuzion is kind of growing on me and its an F for the beginning of the alphabet and you have the artwork.... I guess its the repetition of seeing the word so many times that is getting to me though! Onwards!
Since I don't use them I couldn't really tell you which ones did well. I mean I have a twitter only to follow news of great folks like you! I don't post though. I see the Twitter and Facebook icons on a lot of games when you get to the score page but don't know how good or bad they are. Personally I play games for myself, might like to see a global leaderboard so that I can see where I stack up, but as for sending them around to people I think that is too much bragging. Some of my friends play the same games as me but many do not and I am sure they would hate seeing all my high scores! Many would ignorantly say - is that ALL? But seriously there is a culture now that loves to do that so if there is a way to keep it on the scores page then you need to cater to your audiences. However many of them there are!
Well, I don't want to give too much away, there should be at least a little bit of mystery don't you think? One thing I will reveal though is that there's a built in faction system in the game that will promote some rivalry. I'm pretty sure no other word game has done anything like this, so it should be interesting to see how well it's received by the iDevice word puzzle and rpg crowd!
Hey, I'm a first timer at this so any feedback at all is great! Doesn't matter if you're a dev or not, I like input from everyone. You never know when someone will make a comment that will inspire you to approach things from a different angle!
I completely agree with the length of the name being kept somewhat short. I also don't like to see words abbreviated with "..." on my screen. The subtitle doesn't have to be in the official name as it appears on your device or iTunes...it can show up in the App description and on the screen when you launch the app.
I'm going to see if I can find a new way to integrate Facebook and Twitter feeds, so it's not the same old spam fest that it currently appears to be.
Sounds like a plan since that is what people seem to like to do right now! I agree though if you CAN accomplish it without the spam fest that might appeal to more people - especially on the receiving end. Would it make sense to just start with Facebook since that can be an announcement on your page and not sending stuff out to everyone? IOW people just see your page and your scores rather than receiving them. Then if all goes well and there is a outcry for it add twitter? Not sure if you have to marry Facebook and Twitter and have them both go hand in hand.
What about simply - Epic Fuzion? You can use the artwork from Fuzion, it brings in a bit of the medieval theme, you can still have a subtitle, and no matter what I bet we ALL refer to this game as Fuzion right now! Even brings it one letter ahead in the alphabetical line!
There's currently a discussion in the developer forums about whether a facebook fan page is necessary or even worthwhile. I think that it is, especially if you have a facebook presence already. At the same time though, I feel like Twitter is more geared towards the leaderboards and challenge nature of games that have a competitive element. Some games use these social media platforms to announce every little thing about the game...for example every time a high score is reached. I find that kind of annoying, especially if you have a lot of friends that play the game. While this might be the exact goal that some games are trying to accomplish by incorporating these type of feeds (bulk advertisement), I'd rather limit it to something more rare...something every user might not be able to attain, so that when someone sees it in their Twitter feed or Facebook status update, they think to themselves, "Oh wow, that's neat!". Again, it really depends on how easy it is to work with the API's that Facebook and Twitter provide. At the very least, I want the decision to publish a FB update or Tweet, to be made consciously by the user each time, instead of automatically by the application.
If Fuzion is going to be in the title at all, I think I'd just leave it as is and change the subtitle. There have been a lot of great suggestions in this thread though, I wouldn't be surprised if some of these names get snatched up quick!
Updated screen shots to show the faction selection. The faction names are going to be different in the release version, but this should give you a taste of choosing a side when completing quests and fighting monsters.
