True enough, but Rift is also an MMO (That pretty much has microtransactioning similar to O&C, mind you), so I felt it was a fair example, even though in reality it isn't... But what other popular MMO is out there? The trashy Celtic Heroes one, that I consider far worse than O&C because of how ridiculous it is in its grind, and not to mention the need for Luxury items in that game with ungodly prices compared to how much you get in enemy drops and whatnot. Oh, and that's not even the full list, either, so.... No thank you. Just another day in Gameloft's offices.
What would really be nice is if one of these devs utilized the new IAP subscription service and launch a traditional monthly subscription MMO. Order and Chaos started out that way, where you had to buy a one month subscription IAP each month, but they eventually switched away from that. Now that there is an automatic monthly subscription system in place, I think it would be a more viable setup.
I think so, too. Back then it was too clunky to get it done ASAP, but now that there's an actual system, I'm interested to see how that goes. Plus, really, I'm quite intrigued enough that FW's coming to mobile now. I'm going to have myself a new timesink now, along with H&C2.
Maybe Buy To Play? That wouldn't go over well with the tons of children who play these games or some adults for that matter. I, on the other hand would happily buy it if it meant a very fair IAP system Or no IAP
Any reasoning as to why not? I already subscribe to HBO Now, Noggin, Epic!, and a couple of magazines, all automatic renewal subscriptions. There are tons of other things that people subscribe to. When I played Order & Chaos when it first came out, I bought the monthly subscription IAP. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it wasn't an automatic renewal. While I played Heroes Charge, I always bought the monthly card and wished it just automatically renewed, too. I think the time is right for a subscription based mobile MMO. One of things we always hear about is how the majority of money spent (something like 80%? can't remember the exact number) on freemium games comes from something like 5% of the user base. This leads to the environment of a few top players with the majority of everyone else to live in their shadow. By going with a subscription based setup, the developers would not need to completely rely on crazy IAPs for revenue. This stabilizes the incoming revenue a bit and allows the devs to plan and budget a lot better, versus relying on "whales" that could quit at any time (I've seen players who have sank from $5k to $8k USD in an online freemium game I play just up and quit one day). Obviously there will always be IAPs and big spenders, but basing your entire business model on the whim of guys who either have a lot of cash to blow or don't mind going in debt by maxing out their credit cards is not a stable, long-term plan. By spreading your revenue across your entire user base, you gain stability and predictability of your income. It's just better business. Of course games still need to be free to play in order to hook people, so you still go that route, but then you add a subscription that gives players the full access experience. I think it would work. Actually, I think it's only a matter of time before we start seeing subscription based mobile MMOs.
Curious on how the mounting system works in Forsaken World Mobile? Check out 2p.com to know how! http://2p.com/33336934_1/Forsaken-World-Mobile-A-Deep-Mount-System-You-Cant-Find-In-Most-Mobile-RPGs-by-Fury116.htm
I'd much rather see this come out first, honestly. If anything, O&C's 'big update' is probably nothing more than a new PvP season and some new dungeons that'd probably require its Tier 4 or even Season 4 content to even do. I'm just tired with O&C now. It's stale, it's boring, and it holds an extremely shitty endgame. FW has a LOT going for it, and it going Mobile is just a scoop of frosted cake. The rest of that cake? That's when it hits.
Any news on a forum yet? Also we have a confirmed release date? http://www.mmorpg.com/mobile/games.cfm?game=1274&ismb=1 18th June 15?
