This, I believe dead space is the only game that 'got it right' interms of controls/camera and fear factor.
@Tatoforever You should create a poll regarding the camera/controls, and let people vote on the option they would like to see in the finished game.
New shots guys, The level that you see is one of the outside areas of the game (which is btw, pretty large). Currently running smoothly on the iPad1 (which is our base hardware to try as the performance hit over there is twice compared to 3GS devices). Still post effects like noise filters, lens flare, volumetric lights, god rays and ambient occlusion are turned off but it gives you an overall idea of the new camera system (which is now a blend between Silent Hill and Dead Space). The idea is to give you the best of both worlds (some times on rail, sometimes dynamic) similar to what SH Downpour is doing mind you. I'm going to record a video soon (provably tomorrow) so you can watch that out in real-time and tell us what you think. King regards.
It looks good. But I think you should get rid of the laser sight. Or at least, get rid of the laser sight in the hardest difficulty.
If we get rid of the laser sight we would have then to add auto-aim which is really something we are trying to avoid. Otherwise how the player will aim enemies? Auto-aim is provably worse than a laser sight as it doesn't require any sort of skill or practice to get used to mind you. If your goal is to keep the difficulty (stress and fear) bar high, then there's others ways to rise it (like for example having tougher enemies, limiting supplies and making the main character even weaker). But yeah, we going to make sure that higher levels of difficulty means really hard to beat (or in this case, survive). Cheers,
You will be able to play with different characters which have different abilities/systems but i cant give you any details. For now it's a secret.
To add up to my previous comment (regarding the laser sight and the aiming system): We have a new idea to replace the laser sight which keeps the horror feeling (more than the action feeling) while keeping the same idea (Dead Space aiming style) but doesn't requires high precision effort from the user. Though it have nothing to do with auto-aim (which again is something we want to avoid), you still needs to aim manually mind you. Are we talking the way the plasma cutter works with the three beams of light that acts as your aiming module? Thats pretty sweet to be honest as the laser looked a little.... gay, to be honest. Its just so overdone and even then, it didnt look great. Good luck on the rest of the game. Ive bookmarked this page and will keep checking back every day.
