What are you guys smoking? I'm sorry but all of you are wrong. Apple's advertising and people's reviews have gotten into your head. Get your facts straight. Der-Kleine is basically right. And here are the facts with benchmarking proof. iPod touch 3G specs: 600 MHz ARM Cortex A8 core, 103 MHz bus, 256KB L2 cache 256MB 200MHz eDRAM memory 166 MHz PowerVR SGX 535 graphics chip iPod touch 4G specs: 800 MHz ARM Cortex A8 core on Apple A4 SoC with 100 MHz bus and 512KB of L2 cahce. (Appl underclocked it from the iPad, look up the GeekBench results if you want proof.) 256MB of 250MHz eDRAM memory 200 MHz PowerVR SGX 535 graphics chip iPod touch 3G performance: http://browse.geekbench.ca/geekbench2/view/301657 iPod touch 4G performance: http://browse.geekbench.ca/geekbench2/view/301962 Here are iPod touch 1G and 2G benchmarks for a broader comparison: http://browse.geekbench.ca/geekbench2/view/289887 - 1G http://browse.geekbench.ca/geekbench2/view/300726 - 2G The iPod touch 4G is not 4X as fast, it uses the same hardware, just slightly higher clocked. , not as major as the difference between iPod touch 2G and 3G. Der-Klaine was pretty much right, you wont notice a huge difference between the two for performance, the 4G just runs at a higher resolution. Only the iPhone 4 has 512MB RAM, the Touch 4G only has 256Mb because Apple is cheap. the iPad is the best though, getting a 450 http://browse.geekbench.ca/geekbench2/view/301176 Even though the 4G has more power, there is nothing on the platform yet with which you will notice a difference.
Epic Citadel runs fine on my itouch 3g and so should be on 3gs. I am expecting a cortex A9 on 5th gen which will be a great jump from A4 chip. Maybe Apple will introduce it on the next ipad revision.
We still hard at work, there's some artworks and in-game footage coming soon. This week, so keep it tight. Cheers,
him and Der-Kleine is totally right. My friend gave me his ipod 4G for me to jailbreak for him. Out of curiosity, i tried to see the respringing time and it was on his 12 seconds and on mine about 14(i have a 32GB ipod touch 3rd gen).... Not much of a difference. Then i gave him call of duty zombies and i compared the load time on the biggest map and most resource hungry map which is der riese. His naturally loaded up faster but only by like 4 seconds. But the retina display really looks yucky with it cuz it hasnt been updated for retina display yet. No antiailliasing AT ALL. So retina display only looks good with retina apps. Normal display looks good with anything..... in my opinion-- +1 for regular display -1 for retina... So for me, ill stick with my 3rd gen ipod touch...
Oh my goodness! Those are really, really freaky. Having doubts on whether I want to play this game when it comes out.
Yes we know that, but the difference isn't really noticeable since the Retina display uses up most of that extra power. For example, the performance difference between 2nd and 3rd gen devices was much greater, since there was a lot more power pushing the same number of pixels. In 3rd to 4th gen, you get more power, but also pushing 4X the pixels, so you wont see games optimized for the Retina Display actually have higher frame rates or better graphics.
it is faster but it needs to be faster because it has 4 tiems the pixels, so in the end it doesen't feel faster. One big mistake apple made with the new iPod Touch is not giving it 512 mb ram.
You dont need to use retina display. Thats an option. You can always use the old res (480*320) with iDevices 4.
standart display 480*320. High res display = Retina display 960*640 = twice the pixels iDevices 4 have the option to use both ress. If your game use the normal resolution of course it is faster and quite noticable than any 3GS/iTouch 3G. Cheers,
Uhm, it's four times the pixels, but twice the pixels in each direction: 480 x 320 = 153600 960 x 640 = 614400 That doesen't quite look like twice as much... 61440 : 4 = 153600. You don't even need a calculator to check that, it's quite obvious. Also, games not supporting the retina display look AWFUL on my iPod Touch 4. It is verry visable if a game supports the higher resolution. No Antialiasing what-so-ever. And Upscaling does take a teeny tiny bit of power too. But games running at 480x320 really don't feel faster on the 4.th Gen Devices, because the 3.rd Gen Devices were fast enough to run most AppStore apps at a framerate higher than the one of the human eye. But seriously, before I jailbroak I had to restart my iPod Touch 4 to play Epic Citadel or it would crash due to a lack of memory (yea, face time is running in the background AT ALL TIMES.). I didn't have to do this when I still had my iPod Touch 3. Fortuanteley, now that my iPod is jailbroaken I can free the memory with SBSettings .
