Ah, yes. This is definitely a great idea, as right now I already quite confuse which game I'm white or black. If you implement the idea above, then I think match name is no needed at the moment. Also, how do we know how many games are with you, as I dont see player's name in GC match. It only stated "their turn". Alright, I was thought you already done with single player. -I often get confuse with rules part where I saw 'R' 'D' etc. 'R' is robot, right? But what about 'D'? I saw black card categorized as 'D' as well as green card (flag) also categorized as 'D'. -What about having a section for movement history for both white and black? For example, some online chess games it has a section for movement history to know what my opponent had move, which unit get killed in previous, things like that. What do you think?
- unfortunately the case with the letter D is indeed confusing, but we couldn't think of a better letter for both Defeat (green card) and Diagonal movement (black card). - history is a technical difficulty. The turn based mechanism allows to send only a small amount of data; within that you're supposed to send everything you need in order to show the turn. Doing anything else could affect player experience I'm afraid..
If history is difficult to implement, what about just showing opponent last move? At least players know where did their opponent move. I dont get any pop-up notification or sound notification, all I got is badge notification. Is it because the game is in beta?
Yeah, showing the last move sounds like a good idea. I'll probably go for that. About the popups, I'm not really sure - I noticed it too. I think it's because there's no name for the game (like.. A message). I'll try playing with that as well. What do you think of the game itself? Or is it too early for you to tell yet?
It is a quite unique board game that allows players to define their own rules to the game more fun and challenging to play. The game interface is great, you just need to add a message at the beginning of each turn / game ("[yourname] white, X points vs. [hisname] black, Y points"). One thing bothered me is the game menu design, those icons placement and the menu background. From a user's perspective, I don't really like it. Another issue is regarding to the card ("D" direction and "D" defeat) you have to find another alphabet to that.
Alright, version 0.8.1 is out to answer quite a lot of issues that came up during testing, some of which are williamsyee's (thanks!) It's not too late to sign up for testing! Just see the main post for that. I should also remind you that in 0.8 I introduced turn-based gaming, and while it worked nicely it needed some tuning and extra features as it's not played the same way as an interactive, network game. So thanks for the patience! Changes from 0.8: * Does not show turn-based game options if the device doesn't support it. * When canceling login, strange error message isn't shown. * Fixed bug when changing Game Center player while the Firewall is in the background. * Added feature for supporting future and past communication protocols for turn based gaming, to allow adding features without breaking running games in the process. * Allowing messaging between players in turn-based games. * When finishing a turn based game, you can now write yourself a note (used, for example, to remember what tactic you're planning) * When a turn based game is starting, the player names, scores and cards count is shown, alongside the previously mentioned note. Known Issues: * Due to the communication protocol change, all current games should be aborted. This can be either done manually, or it will be done automatically by the game when it recognizes the problem. This will be avoided in future versions thanks to the future-support of communication protocols added in this version.
Game out Firewall is now out (announcement), and you can fetch it at the App Store! I wanted to thank all the people who joined in to test it, if any of you want promo codes for it, just pm me and let me know how you were called in Test Flight too Thanks again! Aviad.
