Competition with Gameloft? This sounds awesome to me! Let them price match each other all the way to 0.99 cents. Then we'll all be happy campers.

After 20 years in the videogames industry, I beg to differ.

just another point i wanted to make:

see its not so much the fact that im saving $3 as previous posts said, i mean obviously a saving is a saving but its not the point. The game is easily worth $9.99 but i am a patient person, i can wait to have a must have game even if its a few months later. But i bought it recently because i was confident it wouldn't drop in price and i thought, well i might as well buy it now. However if someone had said when i bought it that in 1 month it will go to $6.99 I would have waited. $3 is only lunch, but still as Outkast1 said, "its a principal."

Also, i am in complete support of "premium games" and this is also a reason I bought this game, so that there was still a few really good games which weren't dirt cheap. Most people thought when this game was being produced that it would be expensive and would put a lot of people of. However firemint said they wouldn't drop their price and when reading this i thought good for firemint, they should maintain a high price and not give in to the usual app store "pressure". But in a way i was wrong. I thought that firemint was different. However now that they have given in and followed just about every other developer, i realise we are left with hardly any really good games at $9.99. Gameloft make awesome games such as Modern Combat: Sandstorm from its reviews, but even it is at $6.99. If you look at their other games such as Real Football, its easily worth $5.99 (the price I paid and its original price) but its now at $0.99, that's quite a difference. Another: Rolando 2 is one,but from Rolando 1's pricing history it will most likely get a price drop by around 50% soon.

To sum up, my main point: if all developers give in and drop app store prices to on average <$7,are they really going to continue to make as many quality games if people only buy at a lower price, forcing them to reduce prices??

sorry if its long and boring, just wanted to say :D

Beg to differ all you want. I stand by what I said. I also find your perspective curious coming from a video game background.

Pricing/marketing is more than: lower the cost 6x; sell 7x more; make more money.

Here's a marketing concept: Brand perception/recognition. I think the Firemint CEO tempered with that brand recognition when he clearly stated he would not drop the price- for very solid, thought out reasons- and then turned around and did exactly what he said he would not. He's the CEO not some random employee. He lost credibility with that move.

I still like Firemint and will buy more of their games if they're good. I'm happy more people can now buy the game and enjoy it, but from a strategic perspective I think it was a bad move in the long run. Yes it will boost sales in the near term but RR has now lost that elite, "best of the best" position that it once had. Almost every game around has had a sale at one point. Until now RR was the exception and that gave it a certain legacy. Even with a temp sale, that legacy is over.

It's a discussion, we have opposing views, and it's on topic. I don't think anyone is stressing out or losing sleep.

If you read back a couple pages you will see that I wrote a post on how I felt about the sale.

Spungo came along and added his 2 cents. Not only were my views challenged, but I was also insulted by Spungo who said my ideas were 'embarrassing as well as dumb', called me a crybaby, and said I'm giving him an earache. I am not a person to let that kind of stuff slide... so I made a couple more posts to counter.

Spungo still hasn't said anything to back up his points other than offering a childish example of Peggle having a sale, and claiming he has 20 years experience in the video game industry. Has not made a single relevant point to back up his sh*t talking nonsense.

I explained what the reality is and why. If you're too thick/arrogant to listen to someone who's actually been there and done it, that's up to you.

Dude, your post was a bunch of insults and a run-on sentence. You haven't addressed anything I've said, you just insist that you are right and talk crap.

Your word is not the end-all-be-all. This is the internet, where people love to talk out of their you know what. I may be arrogant but I don't think I'm the one being thick here.... we are going to have to go ahead and agree to disagree on this one.

Sorry for to everyone for derailing this thread. Later!
