No, i don't hate firemint for it, and am not saying i wouldn't buy from them again, and i still think they are an awesome developer of a simply brilliant game. Im just saying its annoying if a developer says something which makes me buy and then goes against it. Another example, F.A.S.T i bought for 1.79 as it was states very clearly as "the war is coming, special reduced price for a few days ONLY". So i buy it and guess what, 4 days later it drops to 59p / $0.99.
Do you not understand how that could be annoying?

And secondly, 3 dollars or £2 may be nothing to you, but i am not made of money and have to be careful!

I don't find it amazing... it's not as though you're suffering because instead of playing RR for 3 months, you're playing loads of other games. If it saves money, where's the harm in using a little patience?

You're waiting 3 months to save 3 dollars. That is beyond cheap.

Understood. I didn't quite get your point originally. I deleted FAST because I kept waiting for this "War" update that would come...as far as I know there's still nothing, and I think the multiplayer is overrated. I understand your annoyance, but I have a hard time being mad at Firemint because they just hit this game out of the park.

    Get over it.....

Anyways, the game is easily worth $9.99 but at $6.99 (or what ever the price will be) it's a steal.

There are several posts above me whining about how they've been stolen from and lied to over 3 dollars, and I'm the one that needs to get over it?

Yes and the several other posts (by the authors) can get over it..

If they want to save some money and wait 3 months oh well their choice.

Check out this from pocketgamer.biz. Its an interview with Firemint's CEO dated 18-Aug-09. In it he clearly states that there are no plans for a sale and that the very idea of sale is not a good idea for a premium game like this. I can understand why some people get annoyed by it, especially like yourself who only purchased recently.

I bought RR the day it came out. Love it and would have payed double for it, easily.

With that said, I read the above article as well, around the time it came out. I can understand how that doesn't sit well with folks and frankly, it doesn't sit well with me either. Not for the loss of $3 or any amount of money for that matter. It's a premium game and well worth the $10. As someone else mentioned it's a steal at $7. My guess is that this sale is a reaction to some of the high end games that Gameloft has come out with recently, as well as some of the high end games that they have in the works.
A sale to combat this might make sense from a marketing perspective... although most marketing decisions carry a double edged sword, depending on your perspective. What doesn't sit right with me is this:

When I read that article with comments from the CEO, I went "F#ck Yeah!" Stick to your guns, don't drop the price, don't devalue the product by competing in these common sales tactics. Demand the value for what it is worth. I think the game is actually undervalued at the 10$ price point for what it's worth.

3 weeks later and there is a price drop. I could care less about $3 lost... but I think in principal, this not the right move. Don't compete with Gameloft. I am starting to really, really like Gameloft as a Dev. MC:S and Gangstar are pretty epic IMO.... but they are not the same caliber game as RR. They do not command the same price as RR. RR should not be competing with them, they should stand alone as THE premium game of the appstore. I know it's only a temporary sale but if Firemint is going to drop the price of RR, how does that bode for the evolution of even better games? Games that could potentially command an even higher pricing point above $10.

Edit- sorry, didn't finish my rambling :)

If we have a large following of people that are unwilling to part with $10 for what is IMO THE absolute best game on the iPhone... how will we ever see even better games? Perhaps $20 games for the 3Gs... that is what I would really love to see! But if people are willing to wait 3 months to save 3 bucks.... I don't see us getting to that point any time soon. BTW- I hate to bring this up again but $3 over 3 months is just ridiculous. I realize we all come from different walks of life but come on... Isn't your time valuable too?

I will never understand the mentality of people desperate to pay more for stuff. Lower prices drive more sales, and since there are no physical costs on iPod the developer still makes the same money.

Pricing is PURELY a marketing decision, made to confer perceived value on things. Popcap cut the price of Peggle to a sixth and sales multiplied by seven, meaning they made slightly MORE money by selling it cheaper. But they put the price back because it creates a certain impression if your game has a premium price, as long as you can back that up with gameplay as good as Peggle, which in turn makes it more likely that you can charge more for games that perhaps aren't quite as stellar.

For God's sake, please stop crying on behalf of the poor broke developers who can't sell iPod games for $30. It's embarrassing as well as dumb. If you're that upset about it, post them an extra $5 and save the rest of us the earache.

For God's sake, please don't compare RR to Peggle. Who is desperate to pay more for stuff? I said that I thought RR was worth more than 10 and I would have easily payed more for it. I also would like higher end games that are of the quality and polish of RR. This takes money. There is a lot that goes into pricing.. it is not a PURELY marketing decision. You don't know what you're talking about.

It's people like you that cry over a couple bucks that are going to halt the progress of better games.

Sorry for the double post but I've one more thing to add.

I am not a developer. I am an end user and have an entirely selfish perspective: I want to play better games.

The app store is only a year old and we haven't begun to see what people can do. Look at the games that first came out compared to RR. Think about what might around in a year from now... If dev's start to think they can't even sell a top notch game for 10 bucks, what incentive do they have to push the bar?

And BTW there is also something called R&D. Part of the thinking that goes into pricing is how to recoup those costs. What is the break-even point? How much do they need to invest on the next technology? Those are operational concerns, not marketing. Believe me, I work in marketing for a large company and there is a whole, helluva lot that goes into pricing, and majority of the time it is determined cross-functionally.
